Maybe Coach is hopping the big announcement of Eli coming back + the Shelton + Marble transfers will entice a higher level (/ more athletic) big man? Has to be more tempting knowing that we'll be a legitimate contender for the WCC crown next year.

Perhaps if we can get that big man, Pugh will be encouraged to depart?

Titus Wright - big man transfer from Western Michigan - is still out there. LMU has reached out to him.

We need rim protection/a shot blocking threat, although another big body would probably be helpful as well. He have so much depth at the wing, would be nice to have at least one solid post player on the bench.

A guy can dream Unprecedented injury epidemic hits the zags or some kind of match fixing shenanigans happens in the final rounds of the tourney and we might just have a chance.

LMU will most likely get voted preseason 3rd unless Saint Mary’s has a stellar class I don’t know about. BYU will sort of just fill the 2nd place void especially with a couple transfers and Pope stays. We’re just to green be given the benefit of the doubt.
But we will definitely be among the hunted next season, coach included. All his jumping around, at say, San Francisco, may be fodder for some extra oomph from them. I can see a testy battle with Pacific. It will be a big coaching job from Stan to get us to win from the position of favorite.
By the way Gonzaga most likely lands Chet Holmgreen and Walker Kessler. Sheesh.

Regarding Gonzaga - I remember some years back when Duke was riding high. I listened to a panel of top NCAA coaches talk about college basketball. When asked what should be done to improve recruiting, they all said the same thing ... “Don’t let Coach K recruit!”
That’s where we are now with Gonzaga and Coach Few. It’s frustrating to see Gonzaga so far ahead but if the rest of the league will continue to up their game, Gonzaga’s power can help the WCC. We don’t have to beat Gonzaga. We do need to become competitive on a national level. Conference wins this year like the Dons over Virginia, and the Waves taking UCLA to 3OTs definitely improve league credentials - which will lead to more tournament invites. Tournament invites lead to tournament wins. And in one-and-done tournaments, anything can happen.
I agree BYU will be the pre- season choice for second next year. I don’t know about St Mary’s. They’ve been in a two-year down trend. If Coach Stan can pick up a quality big, the Lions can compete for second. Second place or even a strong third could get the Lions into the dance.
The future is looking pretty good!

Former poly standout and long beach native Myles Johnson. Averaged close to a double double for Rutgers last year and was first team all defense in the big 10, several people felt as if he got snubbed as Big 10 defensive player of the year. No idea if we have reached out to him, but that would be a huge steal for us. He would only have one year of eligibility but, if we have scholarship space, that would allow a freshman big to ease into the D1 level.
