Now that we have this roster, I figure I would start this thread already. I have a feeling we will have more match ups with UCLA and USC. Potentially other high level mid-majors. Any other thoughts?

Rematch with a southern Utah? Marquette? Tournament in Hawaii?

I'm not super familiar with how games are scheduled, but us not being a "cupcake" make it easier or harder for us to schedule quality, high major opponenents?
We do not yet have the "brand' of a Saint Mary's meaning a loss to us may not be explicitly seen as a quality loss, but if we are good enough to potentially give a team one does that make them more wary of putting us on the schedule?
I'd personally love to see us play any and all Pac 12 teams we can get on the schedule, especially UCLA and USC.

Lamb - I agree with all your comments. I thought we were toying with an Arizona State game last season before plans fell thru. We did have USC and Stanford on the schedule.

A few months ago ex-Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery opined that the PAC-12 schools should all be scheduling WCC teams. When reminded that he seldom played WCC teams while at Stanford, he admitted that scheduling WCC teams was too risky, that it was too easy to lose to them.
I think the problem is that most WCC teams are good enough to pick off a quality opponent occasionally (think USF over Virginia this past year) but lack the consistency to be considered a quality opponent. At this point the WCC has three teams with enough street cred to never stick a Power 5 with a bad loss. The rest of the league will struggle with scheduling Power 5 teams until they have that street cred.
Coach Stan did a nice job at least trying to schedule quality teams this last season. It’s not his fault COVID messed up his schedule. Everyone sees where Coach Stan is taking the team. I don’t think it’ll take too long for LMU to gain the street cred needed.

From Twitter: Sources: The following 7 teams are tentatively set to compete in a BD Global organized event next season, likely The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase: •Toledo •Loyola Marymount •Drexel •Charlotte •Samford •Lehigh •Valparaiso
LMU and Toledo would likely be the highest rated teams in this group so this tourney, as currently constituted, seems to be one that won't help our NET rating much even if we win it. That said, it would be a great time to play a lot of guys and build confidence for what will likely be the tougher part of our non-conference schedules. And, oh yeah, the Bahamas are nice.

This could be a good thing. Any aspiring West Coast team will have a problem gaining national exposure. The other schools listed are all in the eastern half of the country. Do well in this tournament and the Lions will get some notice. Better exposure opportunity than playing a bunch of heavy weights in a bigger tournament and having a good chance at losing early. This will be an early season tournament so it will give the team some East Coast exposure and a good chance at multiple wins, all happening while the new team is still trying to gel.
Combine this with some Power 5 games and we could have a good OOC schedule.

That is one heck of a tournament to be a part of.

Florida State would be fun to see how the Lions match up against that size and athleticism

Don't forget Leonard Hamilton's serious glare! I imagine when he says "jump" his players say "how high."

also from Joe Rothstein on Twitter.
Source: Tulsa and Loyola Marymount will start a home-and-home series next season in Oklahoma. Return game in Los Angeles in 22-23.
So refreshing to be playing tough competition now unlike Dunlap cupcakes schedules.
