Things haven’t worked out the way we thought they would but we’ve stuck by the program and the school. Chelsey has earned her degree as a scholar athlete, which is a blessing for us.
The injuries have been frustrating to say the least. It started when Chels and I had a pretty bad car accident the summer before she came in as a freshman. Both of us had severe neck and back injuries and went through rehab together.
Life sometimes throws different challenges your way, but sometimes you gotta just keep going and hope for the best. But this last year we got a glimpse of what Chels can do when she’s healthy.
LMU stuck by Chelsey even before she put on that #3 jersey. They helped and supported Chels through her last year in high school helping us with (NCAA) compliance etc. We will never forget what Coach Elliot, Chris and April Phillips did for us.
As far as basketball is concerned
Frankly I don’t feel that Chelsey has been put in the most desirable position to achieve success. She’s a Power 5 level Point Guard (1), not a 2 guard / three point specialist (Although obviously she can shoot the three extremely well when she’s dialed in!). I’d like to see the team “run and gun” in a fast paced guard-centric offense. She showed this versus top ranked UCLA a couple of years ago:

I’m hoping that Chels returning as a fifth year starter is the Point Guard floor general! She’s a play maker and fantastic facilitator. We’re very pleased with Coach Aarika and we have history with her. Chelsey was heavily recruited by her and Coach Mark Trakh by New Mexico. She is one of the up and coming rising stars in women’s college basketball.
Go Lions!
