The game was certainly a tale of two halves. I was impressed with Bellarmine and their disciplined approach to fundamentally sound basketball. They were very effective in staying close with our Lions for the entire first half. Teams should watch and learn from their game films. Sniper’s shooting kept the Lions in the narrow lead.
Unfortunately for Bellarmine, they wore down quickly in the second half and the Lions built up a nice lead that carried them til the end. Kelli certainly woke up in the second half and consistently forced the action. Cam didn’t score a lot but did control the offense well. It was really nice to see Ahrens force his offense the entire second half. I believe 15 points is his LMU high. It was nice to see Marble in action and manage a few points.
On the negative side, it’s hard to figure out how Rick Issanza could be shut out against a less athletic team that wasn’t particularly big. Ten minutes of playing time and virtually nothing on his stat line. Graham hustles a lot but doesn’t show a lot of talent. He at least used his long reach and managed a couple boards.
On balance, the second half more than made up for a dismal first half. Any 20+ win is a good win. On to the Rams of CSU!

Just pointing out that Bellarmine was essentially an NCAA tournament team last year but since it was their first year in Division I they couldn’t qualify. This year they can.
Wouldn’t shock me if they stay within 21 points of UCLA on Sunday. This is actually a very impressive victory for us.
