Since we beat the Pilots by 20 on their home court on Dec 29, the Pilots have lost to Saint Mary's, BYU and Gonzaga but beat San Francisco, San Diego and Pepperdine. Justin Ahrens led the Lions' win with 18 points. Portland's best player Tyler Robertson injured his ankle in that game and played limited minutes (13) scoring 7 points vs his average of 14.6.
Hope the Lions don't suffer a let down after our big Gonzaga win.
Gametime: Thursday, Jan 16, 7 pm in Gersten. Video: WCC Network.

I would’ve been very fearful of a let down if the game had been last night. I’m hoping that the weeklong interval will give everyone involved an opportunity to ground themselves and refocus. Nice wins against Gonzaga and BYU shows that the team is capable of playing at a high level. Now, they have to prove they’re a good team by maintaining game-to-game consistency.

Lions- National team of the week - are 7.5 point favorites. Elsewhere WCC winless Waves are favored over San Diego.

This game has me a little nervous. Portland’s best player, Robertson, got hurt in the first half of the first matchup in Portland, and their second-best player (Moses Wood) missed the game altogether. We stuck it to them but still let one of the guards (Meadows) go off for 29 points.
In fact, the Pilots average 79 points a game when Wood plays and in the three games he missed they only averaged 57 points a game.
I know we can beat these guys again, but it won’t be easy. So proud of what the Lions accomplished last week, let’s keep it going.
Go Lions!

Hey guys - long time no see. I know I'm late to the game on this but I'm watching the game and...what the heck is up with the new stadium seating? Where is the rowdy student section? I know it was basically nothing for a while, but now there's not even a spot for them to sit? Bought my tickets for the UOP game in February, and I had to call the ticket office to get clarification on the seating options because the center court spots where we used to stand are on sale? Doesn't even feel like a college game. Do students even show up anymore? Makes me sad.

Team is grinding it out slowly pulling away. Haven’t seen us do this in the past twenty years. Proud

The assigned student sections are now on either end of the west side seats. Those seats are mostly full. I don’t fault the school for moving the student section out of prime ($$) seating. Assuming the team continues to improve, paying fan enthusiasm will increase the demand for seats. I’ll agree the students are very quiet tonight. Maybe it’s due to the nature of the game. I’ve seen and heard sone good enthusiasm from small groups of students this year. Hopefully upcoming Pepperdine and Gonzaga games will invoke sone more student enthusiasm.
