We just need to get this down to about eight points at halftime and we should feel pretty good about ourselves.

Shelton needs to get more involved and stay in the game, 10 points from our starters in the first half is bad. Need our stars to show up on the road.

No Issanza. Then the team was having trouble shooting in the big stadium. After that, it has snowballed.

The Lions let the Cougars get into rhythm early and BYU has taken full advantage. Like nearly all shooting teams, it’s all about rhythm … and that rhythm is very contagious. The Lions needed to disrupt that rhythm early. Without Issanza protecting the rim, the arc defense has fallen off, allowing that rhythm.
Not sure the Lions could’ve stuck with such a hot hitting Cougar team, but my season long complaint about Coach Johnson’s game plan really came to bear tonight. The Lions were in desperate need of some easy looks, yet in the first half our shooters Ahrens and Stevens had ONE shot between them. In contrast to the Lions, the Cougars are very active on offense- setting screens, moving across the court to get open, working hard to help each other get open looks.

Jalin has got to be a frustrating player to coach. So much potential but just not mentally strong or stable enough to trust to play a full 40 minutes let alone 10 minutes

As long as we win Saturday this loss won’t bother me. You’re going to have a clunker or two during the season. Now all that matters is how we respond.

Not sure the criticism on Jalin today. he was literally the only offense as he is the only guy on the team who can get his own bucket. Even Cam with his lack of size needs a screen. Jalin has another level but nobody taught him that early in his youth career so he hasn’t figured it out yet.
That being said, Stan is trying to get the team to play a modern game of shooting 3s and they just couldn’t hit anything to start the game. Nothing opened up inside for easy buckets since they hit clunkers from the arc aside from Jalin. Honestly, BYU played really hard on D and used their size to neutralize Cam early and forced them to dump it to Graham and Keli who couldn’t score down low.
I thought today was the first time in awhile that LMU was the hunted rather than the hunter. While LMU was the road dog and BYU has the stature, it looked like BYU really came to play LMU. They were energized and hungry to hit their game plan.
That of course is the true marker of being great, which is can you take the other team’s best shot once you make a name for yourself. Obviously beating them the last time, and then Gonzaga, really woke up the league to LMU. The same thing happened when Stan jumped up and down when beating San Fran in ‘21 only to get whooped the next time around in ‘22.
I am not upset. Nobody had circled this as a win, but wins are going to be on the premium over the next 6 games!
