FloHoops had a replay of the game so I watched it all. Late in the game the Lions just missed several shots that had been falling earlier. Wright was impressive and made the all-tournament team. On a side note, Lewis managed to play himself out of the lineup.

FloHoops had a replay of the game so I watched it all. Late in the game the Lions just missed several shots that had been falling earlier. Wright was impressive and made the all-tournament team. On a side note, Lewis managed to play himself out of the lineup. These comments confirm a couple of my early observations…. Lewis simply isn’t playing up to the level that I’m seeing with the other players on the team. And Wright is a real baller. Regarding Leaupepe, I wonder if he bulked up too much. Building up too much upper body bulk can have a negative impact on one’s shooting prowess. That doesn’t account for his overall sub-par play but poor performance in one area can affect your performance in other areas. I hope he can find the right adjustments because he’s a beast that few opponents have the ability to contain when he’s on his “A Game.” I still think Harris is an enigma that neither he nor Coach Stan have quite figured out. The guy has an absolute bushel load of talent. But how is that talent best deployed to help the team? I don’t know why Lars isn’t dominating the inside. I didn’t see any of the Cayman Island games. From others’ comments it sounds like the other teams used a lot of pressure defense that really disrupted the Lions’ offense and kept our inside guys out of the offense. That’s hard to understand. Our guards are good. Pressure defense shouldn’t be working against them. Maybe this one falls on Coach Stan for not prepping the guys properly? Lots to figure out before OOC ends in a month.

After watching all three games, it is clear that something has to change rotationally and schematically. We are as talented as any WCC/West Coast team, but something has to give. We are not running any offense to give any player clean looks. Our defense, while having capable defenders looks terrible.
I couldn't agree more with the Harris take, percentage-wise he is one of the top three-point shooters in the country right now sitting at 44.5% on 34 attempts. Has all the ability in the world, but even here it seems like we have no scheme to get him, Juice Hill, or Justin Wright clean looks or space downhill.
The coaching has failed us thus far, this is a team that could be undefeated right now. We have no true identity, defined roles, or rotation.

Regarding Lars he had many touches on rebounds but couldn’t hold on to the ball. That’s his weakness right now. Plus I’d like to see him go up stronger when he has the ball under the basket. Issanza has better hands but lesser offensive skills. With Issanza the outcome of out first two losses in the Cayman Islands might have been different. Graham is playing well in his minutes.
