Bayno was not the administration or my first choice. Obviously, I would of rather had Monty, but if he did not want the job we cannot do much about that. No matter the case, I am going to support a Bayno hiring. I am a Lions fan and Bayno is much better than what we had with Rodney Tention. PERIOD.
Lions fan need to support the decision and look forward to better days. Let's start by attending the press conference.
GO LIONS!

I think that fact that we went after Monty, and he even entertained the offer shows a great deal of improvement in our administration and athletic departments commitment to build our program. Getting Monty was a huge reach for us, but I'm glad we tried. The fact is matter is, he has and will be been pursued by national programs that have their own planes, and supporters with deep deep pockets.
It would have been amazing to get Monty, but I think Bill Bayno is also a great hire for us. He comes from a distinguished coaching pedigree, and has alot of experience. I think he is the type of guy that will bring the great recruits to LMU.
Go Lions

I agree with ironlions. Ya'll have to at least appreciate the fact that admin swung for the fences. Didn't quite make it, but this seems like a solid ground-rule double (At least better than the Tention Hit-By-Pitch, if I'm gonna stick with baseball metaphors). I think the Odom/UNLV scandal was probably a bit overblown... from the little bit that I've gathered about Bayno, I think that it was more of an isolated incidence than a harbinger of things to come.
Congrats on the hire!

I think Bayno can take this program out of the gutter and give us something to be proud of. Tagline for the Bayno era at LMU: Bringing back the winning ways in Westchester!Bill Bayno and the LMU Lions are on a mission to restore the roar. I cannot wait to see Bayno and our Lions head out for the 2009 WCC Tourney in Las Vegas. A Bayno return to Vegas will bring a large spotlight on LMU's program. I welcome this publicity to our program. A Bayno hiring is maybe not a Montgomery, but Lawton, Bove, Husak and the Administration is definitely getting VERY SERIOUS about bringing excellence to our Basketball Program. Let's just hope that Bayno does not pull a Grier in a year or two.

I like this hire. Bayno seems to me like an expensive, European stainless steel appliance that LMU is able to get because it has a small scratch on the side, rather than settling for the cheap generic brand that was selling for the same price. Bayno's recruiting scandal baggage means LMU was able to pick-up a coach with D-I head coaching and winning experience for the price of a D-II head coach or a D-I assistant coach.
To put it another way, a loser guy who is willing to date a chick who has a kid from a previous relationship is able to get a hotter chick than he would otherwise. Bayno is beautiful blonde 22-year-old with a 3-year-old and LMU is the 45-year-old, divorced, balding, middle manager at an office supply company.

Bayno is on campus this afternoon meeting with Lawton. I just heard that LMU is to make the official announcement on Friday. They are pushing it up with hopes to get some press before the Final Four.

"Bayno spent a year as an assistant at Charleston Southern, then joined Calipari as his No. 1 assistant when Calipari took over a floundering Massachusetts program. In seven years, “we took one of the nation’s 10 worst programs to one of the top 10,” Bayno says. “I was a recruiter, and John could really coach.”
Exactly our situation... Hopefully he can repeat this!

It is now safe to say that your incoming PG is 100% ready to become a Lion. He never really waivered on his decision, but his relationship with Rodney was a huge factor in his decision to sign. He has been working very hard on his strength and hopes to come in and compete for the starting PG position. We will shock alot of teams next season.
