Husak's official words to the boosters and LionsFund members on the hiring of Bill Bayno:
LMU Athletics Special Announcement
Dear ,
As our loyal donors and supporters to LionsFund, we have an exciting announcement in LMU Athletics that I would like to share with you first.
Very soon, we will be officially announcing the selection of Bill Bayno as the next Head Coach of our LMU Men's Basketball program. As we have conducted this search, we have had an outstanding pool of candidates, both in quantity and quality, interested in our position. Bill Bayno's head coaching experience, both at the collegiate and professional level, and his most recent time with the Portland Trailblazers, has us excited about our ability to attract the very best college-bound basketball talent in the country to LMU. Coach Bayno is known as an outstanding recruiter and developer of talent, and we are very excited to have him leading our Lions basketball team.
Thank you for all your great support through this important process. We will be planning an introduction of Coach Bayno to our students, alumni, and fans on Wednesday, April 9, in Gersten Pavilion at 4:00 pm. All fans are invited to join us at the press conference and introduction to welcome him as a part of the LMU family. LionsFund donors will then be invited to a special reception to meet Coach Bayno in the Founders Room following the public press conference.
Thank you again to all our LionsFund donors for your support and enthusiasm for LMU Athletics and all our student-athletes. We are very excited about welcoming Coach Bayno as a Lion, and the future ahead for all our great programs in all 20 sports representing our university. Thank you and, as always,
Go Lions! Bill Husak, Director of Athletics
Supporting the student-athletes of Loyola Marymount University

Being led to the electric chair and sitting down. Feeling the leather straps pull tight across my ankles and wrists. The sponge soaking my dome as they place the electric hat on my head. For violating NCAA sanctions regar…… Bill Bayno’s head jerks up veins in his neck start pulsing and his body squirms violently back and forth. At 10:41AM PST the LMU program has been pronounced dead…..

Hey Zags fan. What the hell are you doing on our board? Why don't you kiss Dan Monson's ass in Long Beach State and maybe he'll make you a graduate assistant/towel boy.

ok? Attacking the fact I am a zags fan as well.... original.... We applaud you shanny for being a saint and not making mistakes..... so tell me who would you have hired, and explain why you would have hired him. And dont give me some unrealistic bs like bob knight or something. Tell me who you would have hired with better credentials than Bayno. And messing with a bull? You seem like a bitter cow to be more realistic. All you are relying on to downgrade the Bayno hire is something that happened 10 years ago when he was a very young head coach in sin city. Do people not learn from mistakes? If you read the above article, which you might not have because of your deficiencies reading, you would have seen that he is loved by the Trail Blazer's players and General Manager. I think that alone gives him credibility, not even taking in consideration what he has done at Umass and UNLV. And finally, the LMU program will be dead because of BAYNO!!! ? Have you not been following the program at all!! ? Bayno can not be any worse than Bradley was and then last year by Tention. PLEEEEEEEASE. Get a clue.

Zags. Again why are you posting here? Head up to Spokane and bask in the 30 degree weather. Maybe you can take a day trip to Idaho and kick it with Mark Fuhrman at the all-whites only country club. Regarding Bill Bayno I feel this is the win at all costs hire. Husak has signaled that we cannot compete without getting a renegade basketball coach. Honestly I'm fine with having 2 or 3 seasons of winning basketball and then getting hit on the head with a tack hammer after NCAA violations. At least we can bask in a few decent years of hoops which would be a HUGE improvement to the crap we've seen with Charles Bradley who is now selling garage door openers. Now I was one of the ONLY posters who was realistic about the coaches we COULD hire at LMU. Mike Montgomery was never gonna take the job here. A man with his pedigree would never come to a program that has arguably the worst facilities in the WCC. Now the coach I wanted LMU to hire was Nolan Richardson. He was up for the Arkansas State job and was passed up for the LSU ex-head coach. Nolan is the only coach in NCAA history to win a NCAA, NIT, and NAIA championship. He has the desire to take less money and bring a school like LMU back to respectibility. I hope LMU gets 2-3 years of top tier basketball from Bayno and promptly lodges his foott directly in the rectum of Mark Few and your Gonzaga bretheren.

so let me get this straight... you would rather have Nolan Richardson because you want less drama and chance of NCAA involvement??? WOW. I think this shows tremendous flaws to your creditability as a poster. Lets get Jeff Tarkanian as his assistant.
Give me a break.

Based on BH's track record, Bayno will be the third coach to be fired.
Quinn made three bad hires in a row, Hillock, Olive, and Bradley. He got lucky at CSF with Barney.
But look who knows what's going to happen. Let things play out before ripping anybody.

Dr. BH must get this right or he'll be packing back to Long Beach with no job. We'll know in 3 years. Bayno is Marymount's new coachwww.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080405/SPORTS/804050335Bill Bayno packed his bags yesterday and drove 16 long hours from Portland, Ore., to Los Angeles.
Yes, it was quite a schlep, but waiting for Bayno in SoCal was the head men's basketball job at Loyola Marymount University.
Bayno, a 1980 John S. Burke Catholic graduate, was officially named Loyola Marymount's 24th head coach yesterday.
Husak hired Bayno late Thursday night after school president Robert B. Lawton signed off on the hire. Bayno flew from Los Angeles to Portland after a meeting with the administrators and, after saying goodbye to Trail Blazers' staff yesterday morning, drove back to Hollywood. Husak said Bayno was one of several other candidates he considered hiring. The short list included former St. Louis coach Brad Soderberg, former Iowa State coach Wayne Morgan and Portland (Ore.) State coach Ken Bone.
I understand in today's PC climate, a black candidate has to be included. But WAYNE MORGAN!!!!! That guy couldn't coach an Eskimo to wear a jacket. If Bill really thought Morgan would be a good coach, Bill should be fired RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!

Bill is already putting a staff together and getting ready to go out recruiting," said Bayno's father, Joe, who lives in Goshen. Bayno – who signed a five-year contract worth more than $2 million – is optimistic about turning the program around. “It’s a sleeping giant,” he says. “It’s a beautiful campus, and I was blown away by the people – the president, the vice president, the athletic director. They want to win. They’re willing to make the commitment.“There’s nowhere to go but up, and it’s not a pressure-cooker job. They talk about having a balance between winning and the Jesuit philosophy of life, which is important to me. Recruiting is my strength. I know I can get really good players there.” ” In bold above is all I need to know. GO LIONS!

Don't know why, but when I read this quote this morning the first thing I thought of was Coach Bayno:
"Do you have any friends who can play center, power forward, point guard or shooting guard?" -- From David Letterman's Top Ten Questions On The New York Knicks Job Application

Thanks for the articles alert2. Looks like we could be paying Bayno nearly $450,000 a year a BIG commitment. I hope our assistant coach salaries, recruiting budget, and operating budget also get a kick. Great news for lions fans.
