I'm sure the Brotehrs Pump will send over some Pump & Run hoopsters. Anyone have any AAU rosters? Does Bayno still have High School connections in Veags?

He has been all over the place so our recruiting searches might go wider than just Cali and AZ. I'm really excited about his recruiting potential. Since he is been in Portland maybe has some ties to McCoy and Tinsley...wow that would be ironic.
I'm still waiting on the official word.

This was the correct hire, and a lot of it will come down to Bayno's recruiting. The Pump brothers also gave us Tention, so there effect on recruiting is negligible. This guy will recruit better than any coach we have ever had. Look for longer, more athletic kids coming in. Iron, probably to late in the game for the Portland kids, plus I hear McCoy is looking to play football as well. These are the caliber players that will be looking at us in the future. Bayno will recruit nationally, and he will get some kids we would never have dreamed of, mark my word.

Bayno will be a great recruiter for us. Hopefully he has improved as a game coach since his UNLV days but his recruiting alone should be able to get us over the hump. I am excited about this hire. I am sure Bayno will be excited to see me posting again!

umasshoops.com/news/2000-01/bruiser_bayno_reaction12142000.htmAgain, without Bayno the recruiter, Calipari never gets Camby and becomes a superstar coach. It will be interesting to see where and how he will recruit. At UNLV, he signed Marion, Nesby, and Keon Clark, all out of Illinois. He has ties to New York, Boston, Portland, and all kinds of places. Should be interesting.

Coach Bayno's recruiting is really something to be excited about. Over on the UNLV board there are comments how hard he works at recruiting . He seems to have major recruiting connections which will be great for us. I can't wait to see what happens in the next few months.
Go Lions!

"Let's not start licking each other popsicles just yet" -Winston Wolf
I think we Lion fans have a bit of a selective memory here. We hired RT b/c he recruited Damon/Salim Stoudamire, Bibby, Miles Simon, Channing Frye, etc. That, as they say, didn't work out the way we envisioned.
I hope Husak hasn't sold his (and LMU's) soul for a few more wins. If we deevolve into Pepp, USF, etc. I will be furious. Like lionspride furious.
Personally, I think this was a B hire considering the circumstances. But, what the hey, I'll have a sip of the ol' koolaid. I think it's fermented into alcohol due to its lack of use during the past 1.5 years.

He also signed Lamar Odom which was eventually his down fall at UNLV. Still, Bayno can recruit some studs. Add Marcus Banks to the mix also.
If Bayno could have got all his recruits eligible to play at the same time UNLV would have been in the Final Four:
PG - Marcus Banks (NBA Lottery Pick) SG - Tyrone Nesby (NBA) SF - Lamar Odom (NBA Lottery Pick) PF - Kaspars Kambala (Big Time Foreign Pro) C - Keon Clark (NBA Lottery Pick)
That team would have been one of the best ever. Problem was that Marcus Banks didn't get eligible so he had to spend two years at a JC. Keon Clark was smoking dope and got kicked off the team. Lamar Odom was being paid by a UNLV booster.
Bayno was very close to making UNLV into a top 10 program again. But Bayno had off the court issues himself and could not control his team, nevermind his own behavior.
Bayno is older and wiser now. He can still recruit with the best of them. Majerus wanted to add Bayno to his USC staff a few years ago when he took that job, one of the reasons Majerus stepped down is because USC didn't want him to bring Bayno in.
If Bayno can do a better job of in game coaching situations, he should be able to recruit the talent needed for the Lions to dominate in the WCC. It should be fun either way. When sober Bayno can be a good coach.

That is a good point LMUTEX, and I guess we will have to wait and see. However, I do believe he will be able to get us better players than what fill our current roster.

Ironlion, I whole-heartedly believe that. Tention & Co. had no credibility for recruiting. Besides O.J. and Jenkins, I am not sure clear what talent Tention was going after. I think he was confused as well, because he rarely utilized Sutton, Maynard, Craig last year. Misused Deadwiler. Gave a scholarship to Turner.......etc. The players he recruited did not fit his system. You know, I could go ON AND ON AND ON AND ON about our former coach. Boy, I am glad he is gone. Maybe Bayno can clean up the mess Rodney left in Hank's House. There is much to clean up and do. Today, I have a sense of relief and happiness to look forward to BRINGING WINNING WAYS BACK TO WESTCHESTER.

I firmly believe that winning ways will be brought back to westchester. We do need to give him a couple years though. Next year he will be stuck with Tention's recruits, and the year after his recruits will only be freshman. I expect to see big things by Bayno's third year when his first recruits will be sophomores and OJ and Tim will be seniors. Give it a couple years to start expecting big things though. Success does not happen overnight

Tention was hired as an inexpensive, possible up and coming assistant. That kind of hire has worked for schools, but it didn't happen here. Tention had no head coaching experience, Bayno does, and has had success. If some are scared because they think the guy has character flaws, fine, but from a coaching and recruiting standpoint, this is a slam dunk hire for one of the biggest train wreck programs around.
