Coach Bayno has been hard at work already. Check out these two stories: www.nydailynews.com/blogs/weiss/2008/04/loyolamarymount-on-larry-davis.htmlAfter receiving his release from Seton Hall on Monday, Larry Davis's hunt for a new school is kicking into high gear. The 6-foot-4 sophomore guard and Deer Park native met with newly-minted Loyola Marymount coach Bill Bayno in New York on Friday. "We had a good meeting," said Larry Davis, Sr., Larry's father. "In the next couple of days we're going to set up a visit (to go) out there."
The former UNLV head coach and Portland Trail Blazers assistant impressed the Davises with his rapport and track record for developing talent.
"Billy Bayno is a great guy," said Davis, Sr. "He develops kids to their maximum potential, and that is what impressed us. The one question we have is whether Larry wants to go to California or stay closer to home."
Davis is considering three schools at the moment: Loyola Marymount, Hofstra, and Rhode Island. The family expects the getting-acquainted phase of his recruitment to be brief.
"Most likely, it will be one of those three," said Davis, Sr. "We're going to take a couple of visits to try and find the best fit for him. We don't want to string this out. We just want to find the best fit for Larry. That's the plan right now."
Davis, a former Christ the King standout, averaged 5.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 21.1 minutes as a sophomore at Seton Hall, which finished 17-15. He averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds for his career.
"He's happy with his release," said Davis, Sr. "He needed a change of scenery. To me, I don't think people really got a chance to see what he could do at Seton Hall. He got an opportunity (to play), but what he needed was a change of scenery all around.Just got this story from a friend in the east coast...checking on his profile.... more info shortly.

Getting Larry Davis would be huge for us: Scout ( 3 star recruit) Originally committed to NC state, then went to Seton Hall after coaching change. Ranked #39 SG in the NATION From Scout: Davis Verbals To NC State. He chose the Wolfpack over Villanova, Pittsburgh, UCONN, St. John's, and Seton Hall among others. Later was recruited at Indiana as well Rivals ( Four star recruit) - I'm not sure if we have ever had a four star recruit on our team! www.shupirates.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=52792&SPID=5500&DB_OEM_ID=12600&ATCLID=669905&Q_SEASON=2007

Loyola Marymount coach Bill Bayno in New York on Friday Billy Bayno on the road hunting down talent. Enough said. A NATIONAL search for talent. That is what I like to see. Our former coach only knew 1 other state outside of California....AZ. AZ did not work out well for him and LMU. I hope Billy cleans the house early of his predessor's judgment of talent. I like seeing Bayno on the east coast trying hard to recruit. Just getting our name in the New York Daily News is a step in the right direction. While reading the article I began to chant "JUST SAY BAYNO" aloud.

New York and Europe? Looks like we've got ourselves an increased recruiting budget boys and girls.

Some more rumors:
1.) LMU will have scouts at Houston Kingwood and the Pump Denver tournaments this weekend scouting both Cali and non-Cali kids. Word is that they have "six or seven" scholarships to offer. Did one of the two early commits recently decommit? 2.) Lorne Jackson from Simi Valley is going to commit to Pepperdine later this week. Signing period begins tomorrow, April 16th. If not here, he's a lock for George Mason 3.) 2009 PF/Center Anthony Stover may reconsider the WCC after being courted by both the ACC and Pac-10. Bayno is the perfect coach for both developing the big men as well as his "always had NBA talent" credo. Let's start here with an early commitment, then watch the other 4 and 5 stars follow. 4.) USF is going to have a hard time recruiting any top notched kids this late. Expect a lot of JC transfers, plus kids who left home for the east coast and now want to come back. Players from NM State and UConn are being discussed, but probably just wishful thinking. And next to St. Mary's and maybe Portland, have the worst arena in the league. 5.) Is Portland doing ANY recruiting? I know they are young, but seem to be doing nothing at all. 6.) Cedric Latimer is transferring out of Santa Clara. I know he was recruited by Davy, but is Kerry changing emphasis on his team given the recent shifts in dynamics at LMU and Pepperdine? (Unless he does something quickly, he's be bringing up the rear with Portland and USF). 7.) Some decent 2008 players remain uncommitted locally: Wings: Mike Meza, Chris Smith, Jamal Trice Guards: Dallas Rutherford, Eric Strangis, Josh Thomas, Justin Cook, Bryce (Taft). There is also an undersized but gutty 3/4 in Westchester (Hardnot) that may be worth a look since he's a banger around the glass. Many of these guys were getting looks from some major D1's but many want to remain on the west coast. Worth a look? 8.) Don't know if he can qualify, but the Highland kid from the Valley All-Star Game this weekend may be worth a look at the 3/4. Was MOP in that and the Lancaster All Star games. Kid can jump out of the gym and had a decent jumper. 9.) Is Gersten going to get the remodel or just the office wrap around? Saw an earlier post about a new weight room. Is that something that would be done asap, or part of the longer term plan? GO LIONS!

Wow, having six or seven scholarships open that is means a lot of roster turn over. Getting Anthony Stover would be amazing for us. I don't know how likely it will be if we are recruiting against SC and UCLA. But if anyone can do its is Bayno. I'm interested about this European big man? Found this guy on the Zag board. Maybe it is him. It fits Bayno's proflie of recruit. Even if Alexis only stayed a year or two it would be lovely for LMU. www.draftexpress.com/profile/Alexis-Ajinca-534/Go Lions

Only problem with a European big man is that they place facing the basket. We need some inside presence that can still run the floor. Unless we land some big time PF (Hank the Bank, Part 2) that can control the glass and the bigman can troll the perimeter...?
Re: Stover: Yes, UCLA and a few other bigger schools are after him. But, word is that Bayno can recruit against the best of them. I think he may have to find some three-to-five star local kids that want to stay home, some sleepers, and some kids playing with a chip on their shoulders for being passed over by some of the larger schools. If he can land Stover it would also make the job easier to recruit other three-to-five stars.
Remember that the heyday of LMU basketball had the Jeff Fryers, the Per Stemers, the Terrell Lowry's and Tony Parker's -- not guys that were high recruits. But they played with an intensity and a chip on their shoulders that meshed great with Bo and Hank. Aside from Bo, Hank, and Corey Gaines -- all who transfered from other schools -- nobody was a mid-to-high major recruit.
(P.S. Hardnot at Westchester HS reminds me of a PF version of Peabody -- scrappy, intense, floor burn guy that intimidates the opponent.)

ironlions.... ajinca is already a pro in france and therefore cannot play college ball. He would have been an absolute stud at LMU though I am getting really excited about the makeover this team is headed for

Not really sold on Cordell Hadnot...he has a big body but there isn't much about him on the recruting sites. We already have enough big body stiffs on the roster.
Zagsfanforlife...i got that from the link from BobZag...too bad he AA a pro already.

Someone on campus mentioned OJ might be transferring..... accurate? OJ is not transferring. If he did, he would regret it as LMU's basketball program is now more than ever (in the last 18 years) more committed to winning.
