Oscar Bellfield a 6-1 point guard from Westchester High. He signed with my hometown Rebels and was wondering if anyone had seen him and had any additional insight than what has been gleaned from the standard recruiting reports.
Thanks, GD

I haven't seen Oscar play in person but I think he is a good pick up for the Rebels. I believe he got injured at the being of last summer and never really got to show case his talent level. He might have been kind of under the radar. I believe he went on a trip to USF, and Pepperdine might have been involved at one point. He has stated he is determined to play in a big conference.

From the scouting materials I have read about him he came across as arrogant and spoiled. I would not put anyone like him on my bench. He could come across different in person but I doubt.

Saw Bellfield play since he was a 7th grader in AAU. Talented, athletic. Slasher that can get to the rim. Very good defensively (that should make UNLV's faithful very happy!). He will work hard. He was hoping for USC or UCLA to come through with an offer, but they did not.
If he has a weakness it is his ball handling. Played the point for EBO, but more of a combo guard.
Having also seen Pepp pick-up Keion Bell for the same period of time, it's Bell that has an arrogance about him and he rarely puts in the effort. Bell will gamble defensively -- too much so at times. It's also Bell that would take on three and four guys to jack an ill advised shot. Meanwhile, Oscar Bellfield plays under much more control and is smarter. He'll play within the offensive scheme and he's more fundamentally sound.
Bellfield is a great pick-up for UNLV. Along with Justin Hawkins (TAFT) coming in the next year, the Rebels should be very happy.
