One recruit we can be sure to be in a LMU uniform next year is Given. This season he has had three 29 point games, a 30 point game and most recently a 37 point game ! ;D With Larry, Veron, Jarred and Given we are sure to have a sick back court for many years to come. Forward position is looking very nice too with Viney, Armstead and Young and Hamilton. (Vinson would be nice too ) Center will be nice too if Garibay and Diedrich. We should add one more powerforwared/ center. Not sure about Sutton and Sweezy. I love how much effort Sweezy puts forth...but offensively extermely limited. From watching Sutton over the summer I just don't see him improving. He sat out a lot his freshman year and this whole year.I think if we can get a talented freshman or transfer we should go for it. Dual Sports Stars- Given Kalipinde & Dontae Johnson by Alex Schwartz
I was on ESPN Rise today checking out the site's boys' soccer All-America teams (I like a lot of sports, not just basketball!!!), and saw something interesting. Given Kalipinde '09 of the Episcopal School (VA) was listed as a Third Team All-America and it stated that he was going to Loyola Marymount for basketball. This is the same Kalipinde who was great at The Hoop Group Elite Camp Session II over the summer and was, at one time, ranked in the Rivals 150. Looking back on it, Given had told me at HG Elite that LMU "might consider . . . making [him] play soccer too." Well, it appears that Kalipinde truly is a major two-sport star. Not only is he one of the best senior basketball players in the nation, he is one of the top soccer players in America, regardless of class. It is much more often that you hear about a basketball player also shining in football, so the fact that Kalipinde is so adept at soccer along with basketball is quite special. Congratulations to Given Kalipinde on a fabulous high school athletic career, one that is not done just yet.

Going along with my theme of being happy with what we have... I checked ESPN recruiting site and Given's ranking has gone WAY up. He is given a 90! Vinson was a 93. According to ESPN ranking this makes him the highest rated recruit in the WCC. Check out this write up... January, 2009: Kalipinde has electric quickness and explosive athleticism that makes him a very tough cover for opposing defenses. Using his natural gifts, Kalipinde has the ability to score the basketball with ease and erupt for points in a hurry. He has range that extends out to the 3-point line and he also does a very good job of scoring in the mid-range by utilizing the one or two dribble pull-up jumper. Kalipinde's scoring ability and penchant for scoring off the catch-and-shoot allows him to excel as a shooting guard. However, he also has very good passing skills and vision, which allows him to play some point guard in a pinch. Kalipinde also possesses very good strength, which allows him to finish at the rim while taking contact from defenders. His strength and athleticism also helps him to rebound the basketball at a very high rate on both ends of the court. Kalipinde does a very good job defensively and plays passing lanes for well, understanding how to bait opponents into throwing passes that he can step in and steal. insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=66892&season=2009&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d66892%26season%3d2009Its sucks we will lose Vinson but this is really good news.
