He was not introduced at a recent basketball function. From what I have heard he will no longer be on the team. We could have used him this season...but an open scholarship means Coach Bayno can bring in another great player.

I wonder why things didn't work out with Jenkins. Seems like a wasted oppurtunity but I'm sure Bayno will make good use of the open scholarship.

After all I had heard about him I was really looking forward to getting to see Jenkins play this year. Too bad.

Something tells me that this may have something to do with Dubois coming in. Perhaps some bad blood? We may never know the facts, but for it to happen this close to the season, that's the only thing I can think of, as I'm just shooting at a dartboard trying to think of a reason at this point.

I don't' think it has to do with Dubois. I saw them playing in the summer and they were perfectly cool with each other. My guess it was either of the following:
1. Playing time ( Perhaps Jenkins saw the level of talent coming in and felt like it was to move to a school where he could get more PT. Doesn't really make sense though because he would have left way earlier. 2. Academics ( Maybe Jenkins just didn't put forth enough effort to maintain academic standing).
Whatever the case its too bad he wasn't able to suit up for us. I saw him play several times over the summer and he is talented. There were some issues I had with his game but I will keep those to myself. No need to put him down while he is leaving.

The more interesting question is: does Bayno fill that spot this year or just wait for '09? AND - if he doesn't fill that spot - I think Counts finally gets a scholarship! Good for him!

Since school has started, my money is him waiting to fill the spot in the 2009 class.

The coaching staff has commented that Jenkins was an academic casualty. He has no one to blame but himself as both this staff and the former staff have said that Jenkins was just lazy in the classroom. He is going to look back and realize he missed a golden opportunity. Not only that, if the pipeline to Westchester HS continues, he could have said he started it.
I would agree with stillalion. Corey deserves the scholarship.

I agree ironlions - he will wait. I think Bayno has more guys who want to commit in '09 then he can afford - so Jenkins departure may very well have a big silver lining.
And I am glad to hear that Bayno's talk about academics isn't just lip service. I may be in the minority but I would still rather lose then not graduate players.

If he's academically ineligible, can't he still come back in the second half of the season if he gets his grades up? Or does it mean he has been cut for good.... It'd be a shame - He was a 3 star out of HS

If it is in fact academics he had more than enough opportunity to get things in order. He sat out all last year and was in summer school this past year.

Jenkins just didn't fit the new culture. Although I think he passed his classes, he was too lazy and simply too high maintenance with too low a return. The Bayno culture won't allow for that. There are too many High quality/low maintenance guys out there.

Where is Jenkins going to go to school now? This is kinda short notice to find a new scholarship.

Corey told me he got the scholarship a couple of weeks ago. So he already got the scholarship that was going to Given. My guess is that Chris gets the last scholli Assuming there's not a last minute development with Garibay, I'd love to see Chris get it. He has to have been the heart of the team the last few years, plus you have to admit, Gersten went nuts whenever he entered the game.
