We've had a miserable season but my heart still goes out to NJIT. That really sucks.
OREM, Utah (AP) -- Ryan Toolson scored 22 points to lead Utah Valley State to a 76-50 win Saturday over New Jersey Institute of Technology, which set a record for losses in a winless season.
The Highlanders finished the season 0-29, the worst record for a Division I team in a season. The previous low was 0-28, set by Prairie View of Texas in 1992 and matched by Savannah State in 2005.
NJIT is on a 33-game losing streak, dating back to Feb. 19, 2007, and is one loss away from tying that record.
The Highlanders were also the only Division I team this season with more turnovers (577) than field goals (550).
Toolson scored 14 straight at one point for Utah Valley State (14-14), getting seven before halftime and seven more at the beginning of the second half as the Wolverines pulled away.
Senior Kraig Peters scored 13 points in his final game for NJIT.
It was the final game for NJIT coach Jim Casciano, who announced Wednesday that he was resigning at the end of the season. Casciano has won more than 250 games while coaching at five levels of college -- two-year college, NAIA, Division III, Division II and Division I.
NJIT is 5-53 since moving to Division I.

Well NJIT has a RPI ranking of 341 (dead last) and LMU has a RPI of 285. Using the RPI as a guage (which I realize may not the most effective way to measure) to measure our program, we are in the lower 17% of college basketball. We would be worse off if we did not have Gonzaga and St. Mary's on our schedule for 4 games. (side note: didn't Dead3man state that we had a challenging non-conference schedule that would prepare us to be very competitive in conference? Boy, I guess he was Dead wrong on that too. That must of been RT words running through Dead3man. The numbers don't lie. We are dismal this year). The reality is our program is in complete shambles and we need Lawton to step it up. It is obvious that Husak is not going to make a decision on his own. Keep the letter writing campaign going with Lawton. SOMEONE needs to ADDRESS the situation. Let's face it, we want to be a competitive mid-major program but we cannot even be competitive against DII schools transitioning to DI status. Our program needs an OVERHAUL.
