Well, that was one hell of an off-season. But now we are finally able to see the new lions in action that will be much more indicative of this season than Midnight Madness or a friendly scrimmage. I hope the students and fans come out. This is the beginning of a new era in Lion basketball. 11/3 7pm Gersten

I'm there tonight. Let the new Loyola Marymount University men's basketball era begin.
Glad to see the probable starters listed in the weekly release:
G - #0 Jarred DuBois (Fr., 6-3) G - #11 Vernon Teel (So., 6-4) F - #15 Ashley Hamliton (Fr., 6-7) F - #40 Kevin Young (Fr., 6-8) C - #12 Marko Deric (Sr., 6-9)
I think this is the best starting line up out of the gate. Even if everyone was healthy, I would go with this line up as well. It will be very interesting how Tim Diederichs responds to continued detoriation of playing time through his college basketball career (considering he started every game last year). Next year will be worst for Tim. He will probably be 4th or 5th off the bench. Something to watch and monitor. I guess that is the plain difference between Rodney recruited talent and Bayno recruited talent.

Not a big suprise. Becasue of his injury I'm sure the coaches want to limit his PT.

Can't wait for tonight. There should be some good support for the exhibition game seeing as there is a ROAR tonight.

Just got back from the game. It felt good to win in Gersten haha. A couple thoughts.
*Vernon Teel looked great. He was a bit shaky at first missing alot of open layups and being a bit wild with the ball. In the second half though, he really got in the zone and ended up being able to score at will. He was great getting into the paint and getting the bucket. I think he will be one of our highest scorers this year and a go-to guy because it seem like he always wanted the ball to score.
*Kevin Young is gonna be an outstanding player. He is so athletic and so active. He had some nice dunks and nice blocks throughout the game. Once he puts on a bit more muscle he will be amazing, but he still is definately one of most skilled players. I can't wait to watch him the play the rest of the year.
Of the other players, Laron Armstead made some really nice plays, and played well. Jarred Dubois is going to be a great floor leader, and made smart moves with the ball all night. He also seemed to be an outstanding defender. He is lightning fast and had many steals tonight.
Tim didn't play tonight, so our rebounding should be better once he gets back, but I believe we still out rebounded them by a good margin.
Obviously Hope International wasn't the greatest competitions, but it was great to see us play together and not play down to our competition. It felt good to start off with a win in Gersten and there was actually pretty good support for an exhibition game. I can't even begin to think of the talent we have next year once we have Viney, Vinson, Davis, and Garibay playing. It is really exciting that the Bayno Era has officially begun.

I agree! Bayno's players were really impressive. Got to admit I saw scared at first but we blew up in the 2nd half. Teel, KY, Laron were really sharp. The Tention players looked like they were from another planet. I'm just so glad I got to see a win. How many games has it been? Things are looking up for us lions. 81-51

Hope International was playing its third games in four days and were not a good team, so it wasn't a great game to judge our Lions. There are however, some overall characteristics of the team and players that was very exciting to witness.
As a team we are long and very athletic and played hard start to finish. I mentioned to my friend that even when we were up by 30 and was it the end of the game, the intensity never ceased. I know Coach Banyo and staff really have instilled this attack dog mind set and it showed last night on the court. Our coach staff is top notch and the players are really tuned into the offensive and defensive goals set by them. This is very important for a young team. We really have the foundation for a amazing team.
New players:
Teel: I love his swagger and slashing to the basket. He was a little out control at time but the seemed to calm down. You can see why he scored 35 ppg in HS. What I really liked is how beside scoring he got team mates involved.
Young: Wow, KY what a steal we got in him. I can see why Arkansas and BC wanted him so bad. Up and down like he was on a pogo stick. Amazing to start off your LMU carrier with a double double. Once he gets some more muscle on him, he is really going to be tearing up the WCC.
Hamilton: Having to play center at times this year will take some getting use to. It was great to see his athleticism and speed in action. Once he gets his outside shot more refined he is going to be really hard to guard.
Dubois: I was impressed with his D. He is a smooth and cerebral and savvy PG. I think he is a better shooter than displayed last night. He really knows how to run a team and will be a great leader.
Armsted: I can't believe he want recruited more out HS. He showed toughness, and was very athletic. I really loved his up and under lay up. His shot seems a bit unorthodox but I know he can score if needed.
I'm trying not to look ahead to next season because thinking of the amount of talent we will have I will probably urinate on myself in excitement. I'm going to try and enjoy this season but just think of this line up next year:
Larry Davis ( Dubois back up) Vernon Teel ( Laron back up) Terrell Vinson ( Kevin Young back up ) Drew Viney ( Ashley Hamilton back up) Edgar Garibay (Tim Diederichs back up)
Go Lions!

Vernon Teel's line- 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steal in 29 minutes. Quite an impressive first outing.

I was really happy with the new recruits inaugural performance. Teel and Young were very fun to watch. Teel has a lot of attitude and somethings he can get caught up in it and get sloppy but he is showing that he has what it takes to back up some of that "swagger." The rest of the team was pretty solid against really bad competition. I think fans can breathe a sigh of relief. This developing team seems capable.
