Instead of Bayno.
Take him out of the equation and turn the clock back almost a year.
Who do you think would have been the right man for the job and why?

Ken Bone. If I remember correctly he was said to have wanted the job. He has done an excellent job at Portland State and has proven he can attract transfers and solid recruits.
Do not forget the talent Bayno brought us in his short time here though. The fruits of his labor will start to be apparent starting next year.

Well it would have been nice to get Mike Montgomery but I think he bowed out.
Ken Bone sounds nice too, his Portland State team just be the Zags in Spokane. However, not sure he could have been effective in recruiting with much more challenging academic requirements.

Both were at the top of my lists, Bone and Montgomery.
Still thought something could have been worked with Montgomery involving John.
Bone has some skeletons at PSU, but certainly that aside would have been an ideal candidate.
Good feedback.

Well ya, if Montgomery wanted the job, he would have been the man. Cal is 15-2 this year under his watch. What an excellent college coach he is. Husak tried though.....

Well, it makes sense that big Monty went with Cal. The only tie he has to LMU is that his son warmed the bench for a majority of his time on the team. Cal is closer to home for him and Mrs. Montgomery.
I would have LOVED to see the Monty team at LMU, though. That would have been awesome.

Monty may have come if it weren't for Cal who came calling and likely with a large sack of cash to sweeten the deal.

Brad Soderberg. He was the coach at St. Louis before being replaced by Majerus. He had all but one losing season in 5. His overall record was 211-147. He is very Catholic, and loves coaching at a Jesuit university. He would have been my best choice.

random question: now that bayno has resigned, we don't have to pay him the remaining years of his contract... correct?

No coach that was hired in April could have brought in more talented players or a better-recruiting coaching staff than Bayno. What he did in, essentially, a four-to-five month window was truly extraordinary (hire an excellent staff to go along with bringing in Armstead, Young, Dubois, Teel, Davis, Viney, and Hamilton).
As it turned out, it truly was an extraordinary effort that could not be sustained. Four months ago we were all thrilled. It was a high-risk hire that paid immediate dividends. Bayno's basketball recruiting, IQ, and people skills were off the charts. It just didn't work out. Bayno needs our prayers.

Alert2,
Bob Burton took his team to the NCAA tournament last year. Fullerton is probably one of the worst jobs in the Big West - other than maybe Cal Poly and UCR... thats up for debate tho.
He was offered the job two different times (after Aggers and after Tention) and turned it down. He's won 20 plus games countless times at Fullerton, is the winningest coach in Fullerton history. Just wait for TitanCzar's response, don't think he's a big Burton fan.
I think everyone would have hired Monty instead - but Husak would have done that. Interesting bringing up Sodergerg.

Yes, he's accomplished those things. BUT look further into his record. His schedule is the ACC variety. All CupCakes. He hasn't beaten any team who ended up with a winning record, during non conference. The BW is so weak with UCR and Davis, both D-2 schools that moved up. With the way he scheduled, he SHOULD win 20 games. I also wouldn't build a team filled with all D-1 transfers. The person most responsible for the success at CSF, has an office at LMU now. Jason Levy found Bobby Brown who was the cornerstone of the turnaround. Not only with is play on the court but getting his HS and club teammates to transfer to CSF. Without Levy finding Brown, CSF would not be good. Look at the non D-1 recruits Burton has brought into CSF. Most are stiffs. Hardy Aspira (sp) was the only other player, other than Bobby, worth a damn. All the big men Burton signed were stiffs, who, at most, lasted a year.
