You're right, Idawg, and so is Max. He's gambling that everyone else stays healthy. We're having tough times getting in good practices without the talent to run a five-on-five scrimmage using only current players. That's been an LMU problem for years and it's hard to get better in practice as a result.
On the other hand, you can't cancel the rest of the season. We're up against it whichever way we turn, but you don't gain anything by turning on the coach.

Great Evaluation Oldestlion. It is the truest post I've seen here. You obviously know some basketball. Sunkenlion, wake up. Everyone here needs to know that this season is about the future, not this year. So lets enjoy the "baptism of fire" that these young men are going through. They are very entertaining and inspiring young men.
Also know that top talented recruits read this blog...and when they see the fans ignorantly bad mouth our coaches, the other coaches that we compete with, can use it to turn away talent from LMU.
I'm telling you that there are players looking at LMU that will knock your socks off. Even Vinson is not totally off the board. But if he does leave, I put as much blame on all the ignorant trash talk that's been posted here, as much as Bayno's leave.

Or his own self-interest, maybe? Can you blame him?

oldestlion: Being that I have played against half of the current lions, many more former lions, and many other D1 talent from bigger and better programs...and have also coached for years and had players sign basketball scholarships, I believe I do have the "legs to stand on." Being second guessed is a part of coaching. For the last 15 years the Lions motto has been "Just wait 'till next year!" But these players play hard this year and deserve a chance at a few wins and some confidence. So I strongly disagree with your claim that its "good" for them (because it will help them next year?) to not use the bench for a few minutes a half so that the starters can have fresher legs in the second half. If I were the coach I would also be insulted by your statement that they don't have the "talent" to continously switch offensive sets. Less talented teams need to switch sets more often an out execute more talented opponents...which is the coaches job to make happen.
waterboy: I don't believe top talented recruits spend any of their time looking through every post on the message board of every school after them, and even if they did I hope you don't really think they would give random anonymous opinions any weight whatsoever in their decisions. And if you think coaches use second guessing message board posts to turn talent away from the opposition (they might be better off using LMU's won-loss record) ...in that case UCLA will never sign another decent player.

Waterboy …Believing that you are underestimating the intelligence of LMU recruits in suggesting that they are basing life-altering decisions on what is written here. However, just in case you are right, I’d like to impress upon them that LMU is indeed like the depression era mythical Big Rock Candy Mountain of NCAA B-Ball programs, but instead of “little streams of alcohol trickling down the rocks” we have blondes that do that. And of course if the recruits would like to read all about an American family’s pursuit of that depression era idyll, I recommend they read Wallace Stegner’s “Big Rock Candy Mountain.”
