I support Husak and understand the difficulty of that job in regards to the politics involved. ("What? Politics at LMU?!")
That said, if I hear one more person say "at least we have a good water polo team..." I may have to go off on a rant.
I've been to many water polo games and we do have a great team.
But with all due respect, it just doesn't do a lick of good for the school at large when compared to what it would be like to have a good basketball team around here once in a while.
Am I wrong?

I completely agree with you, stonewall. We need publicity, and, sadly, a water polo team isn't going to do it. Neither will a soccer or a baseball team, unfortunately.

IMO, Julia has done a fine job with her articles and support of the team.
I will have to strongly, respectfully disagree with her on this one. Husak is the problem. Basketball is the flagship program. Water polo and swimming are probably 7th, 8th, or 9th in terms of revenue and intangibles. While I applaud their performances and facilities, that does not justify keeping a completely incompetent (in my eyes based on his hiring decisions) AD.

Heck, the only reason anyone knows about LMU to begin with is because of Hank and Bo. No other sport has managed to give the university any notable publicity in the past 21 years. What does that say? HMMMMMMMMMMMM?

I actually agree with you crazycagegirl on this one. Water polo is not the team that brings in revenue for the school. While it is great we have a good team and a great goalie, I would venture to guess less than 20 students (besides the players) knew that we were ranked as high as we were in water polo. If LMU wins a basketball game, more than half of the student population knows.

"If LMU wins a basketball game, more than half of the student population knows."
Well at this point, a win would probably rock the nation, as unlikely as it is to happen.

Haha true that, stonewall.
And with the new information that has come to light about Bayno, Husak will have a lot to answer to.

Dr. Husak must want a winning team as much as anyone. He seems open to ideas from the community and is responsive to average fans - send him an email if you don't agree. Good has a winning record as D2 basketball head coach at Wagner, Scholl is a dynamic recruiter, and the pair are perhaps a better match to LMU's current level of standing than Bayno was. Bayno brought excitement and a vision for a great future, but I guess the prospect of facing a losing season was stressful for someone wanting to rebuild his standing in college ball. (Not that his course of action helped in that matter either.) Next year could be dynamite if we keep the team in tact and the recruits coming (we may lose Vinson but there are other good players out there), all will be well. We all need hope for the future - and let's find it next year after this (another) testing season for fans!
