I wholeheartedly agree. Watching this cinderella team come inside 3 minutes of stealing the Super Bowl brought back a memory:
I am from the east coast and a die-hard Boston sports fan. I remember going to Phoenix in 1993 to see my Patriots, who at the time were the winless laughing stock of the NFL, play the Cardinals. As luck would have it, the Pats ended up pulling out their only win of the season. Fast forward 9 years and the Pats beat the heavily favored St. Louis Rams (with Kurt Warner as QB) to win their first Super Bowl and set a new tone in the town of Boston, which has resulted since in two more Super Bowl victories, two World Series victories for the Red Sox, a Celtics World Championship and the rejuvenation of the Bruins, who as I write this have the best record in the NHL.
My point? It can in fact be done and it's nice to think that some day, we few on this forum--we unhappy few--may be able to say "we were there during LMU Basketball's darkest hour". But I'm done cryin' about it.
What we as fans need to do is increase our moral support, hold up a standard of victory and have the confidence that it can happen. And I'm not talking about a national championship victory here--I'm not delusional. But I STILL want to see LMU win the WCC and get to the Sweet-16 inside 5 years. There, I said it. Now it's time for those who care--players, coaches, students, AD's, fans, etc-- to sack up, set the standard, and do whatever it takes to make it happen.
I say F this catastrophe of a season, and good riddance to Bayno and Vinson and those fans who don't show when times are tough and anyone else who can't hack it. More importantly, F anyone who isn't prepared to pull their weight from here on out. I put you on notice.
My favorite quote is from To Kill a Mockingbird: "[Courage is] is knowing you're licked before you even begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what. You rarely win but sometimes you do." So I'm putting my modest fan mojo behind the players and coaches who go out there night after night, get raped, but then have the stones to still show up the next day and the day after that. That's where we should be putting our energy from here on out.
End of Rant.
