We need to contain Big John. Marco needs to play the same way he did against USD. Hope we have a nice crowd with parents weekend.

These are the WORST refs I have seen in awhile. That intentional foul call on kevin was bullsh*t

I'm watching this on a very small screen, but geez the foul on Young's breakaway there in the last minute sure did look like the definition of an intentional foul.

Sweezy played an excellent game guarding the 6'11' 275 lb Bryant with his 6'6" 220 body. Even threw in 6 points including a hook shot off the glass that probably surprised even Sweezy. Teel and DuBois played well also but we couldn't make baskets at a few critical times late to pull off the win.

Lions played well but a few plays here and we ended up on the losing end. We really needed some depth tonight. Marco and Brad did a pretty good job, and we had some good help D but we needed a true center. We made some freshman mistakes at the end. The refs were a pile of dung.We kept it close with a good SCU team- with a full roster we should be able to win quite few games.

That was the best 38 minutes of basketball I've seen this team play all season. It was really encouraging. Too bad I could not comprehend a single thing they did in the last 2 minutes. Young's late foul when the LAST thing they needed to do was foul and Teel driving the lane when they needed a 3?
Still, if that's what does the team in then I've got to say I'm happy. I'll take that any day over a 30 point blow-out. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actually starting to believe.

The good news is we were in a close game at the end.
The bad news is that we had no idea what to do since we have been in so few close games.
That is something that takes experience and is understandable at this stage. Think we can feel pretty good about this week's homestand and split.
Marko Derek (no need to spell his name correctly, lol) proved his last game was an abberation. Him graduation will be the classic definition of "addition by subtraction".
Sweezy is one guy you can count on to play hard. He may not be the most talented or athletic but he gives, dare I say, a Peabody-like effort on the floor. Glad to have him on the team.

Glad to see a Peabody refernce. I loved that guy as a kid. The human bruise would give up his body to help the team. I saw a lot of that from Sweezy today.
I think Sweezy doesn't get the stats but what you don't see os that person who will do anything for the team.
I also think Vernon should not have the ball at the end of the game. I know he wants to win but he turns it over too much becsude he trying to hard. Give the ball to Dubois and Cory and have Teel come of a screen.

One thing I'll question is why Dubois was stationed under the basket during the final minutes. You'd think that with his hot hand, he'd be patrolling the perimeter and have Armstead, Young, or Sweezy set picks for him.

I was impressed by our freshmen's efforts. At this point in the season it would have been easy to just collapse but they fought and are improving. This was one or two "freshmen" mistakes away from a victory.

I agree with the late "Freshman" mistakes - in particular with 37 seconds on the clock and some 15 seconds on SCU's shot clock and SCU up by one, Kevin Young made an unnecessary reach in foul on the SCU guard on the perimeter. Young probably envisioned a steal (he is close to the freshman steal record in a season) but this may have cost us the game. Young fouled out. We had been closing down the SCU offense on earlier plays and had time to win this one. I can't fault Kevin as he plays hard every second on the court, but this was one of those "freshman" mistakes we're talking about. After this, things got desperate with some chaos and random happenings. So close to another major upset. By the way, Jared DuBois has "on" nights and "off" nights, sometimes "on" and "off" halfs. He started very slowly but with points in the latter part of the first half, did come up with 10 (or so) by halftime. Then his 3 point shot kicked in during the second half and it was "get the ball to Jared." Like the UCSB win when he scored 39 points shattering freshman one-game records at LMU. He will be the go-to guy like Brandon Worthy as he matures and probably will exceed Brandon's achievements.

I agree, the Young foul @ 37 seconds was dumb to me it was a major factor on losing the game. Freshman or not I'm sure he played the game enough to know that with a game that close there was no need to foul LMU would have had the ball last.
This team is young and has a lot of growth, but until they play like a team which they haven't been to me unti the San Diego game they will lose.

Thanks Sportsman - we are learning and Coach Good is not too critical with our key players, which Young is at this point in our development as a team. We should have won this one and might have without this foul.
