So while I started that Bring Terrell Vinson to LMU facebook group...I knew that was Bayno left we had no chance to keep him.
But now that Vinson is heading out, what do we really need to replace? I dont think getting yet another in between positions player is the way to go. I really think that we could use a legitimate power forward or another Center.
Here's my hypothetical depth chart for next year:
C Garibay (Be a presence in the middle!) PF Viney (draw post players away from the basket) SF K. Young (we need to make him like Ariza) SG Teel (create his own shot) PG Dubois (playmaking ability
Bench: Larry Davis SF Armstead SG Hamilton F Deidrichs
Then that Kalinde guy i dont know much about him can play a role i guess
I really like Sweezy but not as a prominent player. more like a player who can come in select spots
Sutton needs to go though, he hasnt played in 3 years.
So that means then we really need a sidekick to Garibay, so someone else that can bang down low. All we have is Garibay and thats putting a lot of hope and pressure on another freshman. Plus he would be the only guy taller than 6'9" and we dont want Viney having to get down and rebound.
This lawson guy may be interesting but we need to look for a PF or Center of the future.
By the way, that hypothetical depth chart looks really good!

I doubt Davis will come off the bench
That Kalipinde guy is the top recruit in the WCC next year as a 90 grade which espn defines as,
"Player demonstrates rare abilities and has the potential to start as a freshman for a national, top-25 program."
well were not even close to a top 25 team so i would say he will do more than just play a role next year
and we have deidrichs back and hamilton to board down low with Garibray
We definitely don't need a guard, so i agree we should get a big man, PF or Center

What's all this talk of Kevin Young leaving? And I agree that Davis and Teel will probably start unless Teel makes too many turnovers. Then, it could be DuBois, who runs a more disclipined, control offense and can get the hot hand. Kalipinde could work his way into starter if he lives up to his billing but probably won't start early in the season. Again, where is the talk of Young leaving coming from - is he being recruited by another big team?

No one is leaving. We have a great team. Only sutton should be gone.

That is reassuring. Hope you are right - can't figure why he would leave. Tonight, our guys are playing a very competitive game vs Portland (2 points down well into the second half) and Teel is playing better team ball than normal.

Thanks again dedicated - very reassuring. Regarding what players we really need - its certainly a post player and a forward that can score on a regular basis. When Derichs game is on - maybe three times this year: Notre Dame, Cal State Bakersfield and Portland - and helps get team off to a fast start, we are very competitive. No way we could prevail over Notre Dame but we could have won the Portland game with a few more plays down the stretch. So if 10 or 12 from the post, especially early, makes us competitive this year, imagine if we can do this on a regular basis and add consistent scoring from the forward position as well. The young guys are making their presence felt but they cannot do it alone every week.

After tonight's game against USF, I would think DuBois will start with Davis next year with Teel coming off the bench as our "John Havlicek." Teel is still too eradic for Coach Good's taste while DuBois is in more control and recognizes his limits. For you youngsters out there, John was the #6 player on the classic Boston Celtics of the 60's who provided the team spark and was a general thorn in the side of the opposing team. For more contemporary folks, he would be the Lamar Odom of the Lakers until Divak was traded.
