>:(The field of the Great Alaska Shootout has been reduced from 8 to 6 players this year, a sign of the difficult financial times. Interesting only because LMU made such a great showing a few years ago with the Worthy-Knight-as seniors team at the tournament before losing in the finals to Cal. Westchester home town threw a nice parade for the team coming home between LAX and LMU, honoring their achievement. Alaska in the late fall, why is this a hard draw?

One reason is ESPN and the tourneys they are sponsoring. Those tourneys give the teams about 25,000 or more reasons to be in that tourney.
The 76 Classic is an ESPN tourney they put on to fill air time. They could care less only about 1,000 people show up, as long as they can broadcast the tourney on their family of channels.
