One of my friends is a cheerleader for the team, so they hear everything that is being planned for the upcoming year. Apparently the coaches are really trying to build tradition and student support, and the following changes are coming:
* On game days Foley pond will be dyed Crimson. * When we win a game, Sacred Heart Chapel will be lit up Crimson. * The Lion statue by Malone will be bronzed and it will be a tradition pet the lion before home games.
AND THE BIG ONE
TAILGATING ON HANNON FIELD BEFORE HOME GAMES
I am extremely excited about this one, and see it as a HUGE step in having the whole campus be involved with LMU basketball. I have tailgated at other schools, and it is quite an experience. My guess is that though the school has known about ROAR since it started, and played oblivious to it, the whole westchester fued has made it where it makes more sense to have students drinking on campus before games. I was told that P Safe will not ask you if you are 21 or bust you, unless you are doing something stupid. It will truly be a great experience for LMU fans.
Finally he most of these changes are being worked on and approved by Lane Bove. Lets hope they come to fruition!
Go Lions

Great news for LMU fans, athletes, and the community. Thanks for keeping us posted lambdachi1988lion.
Where are we getting the money to bronze that huge lion statue? No matter, the tailgating news is BIG, especially if they will allow "beverages" without harassment.

That's great Lamb but I thought "BIG NEWS" was a reference to Aziz!

Its great to hear that tailgating close to Gersten. I think it will help to have Roar and the student body in the seats rocking before the game starts, as opposed to trickling in like years past.
Great to hear about the other plans surrounding basketball.
HOW LONG MORE DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START!
Go Lions!

Judging from my past experience in trying to get tailgating at lmu either Athletics really stepped up the pressure on the Administration, or it will end up being a bit more restricted than is currently described.
No matter what there will likely be a ban on glass bottles.
Aside from that previous attempts have hinged on two things.
-Food Prep -restrictions on who can drink and where.
Food prep-The administration has been reluctant to allow individuals to grill, citing health concerns. They advocate food prep by the school only. It's a lame argument on multiple levels, but unless they conceded some ground here it'll likely be lmu provided food only.
Booze restrictions- Typically anytime LMU provides alcohol you are caged in in some confined area, I'd have a hard time imagining they'd open things up and allow people to drink openly.
I hope I'm wrong, it's quite possible that a 3 win season was very convincing evidence for the university, and they realized they need to loosen up their controls on these types of events to make them a success.
inevitably, drinking age is a huge issue, although the best hope we have is that they university will allow things to be a bit more laxed in attempt to avoid annoying westchester residents (as was previously mentioned).
I'm very cautiously optimistic. If people can't cook their own food, underage students can't drink, and those who do drink are confined to a small fenced in area I doubt these will be well attended. Lets hope that athletics was really able to change their minds, cause no one else on campus would have that ability.

I am not sure who exactly told the fraternity president, but he made the announcement to the chapter. He told us that he has heard from the administration that we will be able to bring our own alcohol, as well as being able to cook our own food. Sodexo will NOT be providing the food which is great news. Our fraternity is actually thinking about investing in a "grooler" haha. gizmodo.com/5359818/bud-lights-grooler-is-actually-a-real-productOur president told us that the administration is really investing in athletics, and they really want the students to get involved. Great news for all involved. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START. Go Lions

I guess it really shows that athletics has a very heightened influence on campus right now. This is something that has seen no progress for years, and the administration appears to have caved on many of the big issues. Props to whoever it was that got this done, and the university for letting it finally happen. This is probably one of the best things that came out of our 3 win season as far as boosting attendance next year. The team looks team looks good, coach has kept things together, and the administration is giving every reason for fans to turn out. Lets hope LMU fans hold up their end.

Not being a tail gaiter myself but probably more in the category of an "old fart," my bottom line on this is: let's hope the cheering crowds are larger this year (although we had a full house for the ND game last year) but I expect the men's urinal to be more crowded at halftime.

Pre season rankings?(13 posts) (8 voices) •Started 2 months ago by sd fan •Latest reply from ToreroBlake Tags:
•Basketball sd fan Member This is just my opinion
1. Gonzaga- Lost a lot of players but still most likely to finish first in season.(Do think they will lose in WCC tournament) 2. Portland- All starters returning. Great point guard. (Though thats what USD had going to last year and you know what happened to us. 3. LMU- Big recruits in Vinney and Davis. (May easily finish higher or lower depending on those two) 4. USD- I say with BJ back we look top 4 worthy. Great recruiting class for us. (BJ will be Bj it's up to the rest if we want to finish higher) 5. SMU- Team Australia still. Loss of simpson and Mills hurts. (for them to make any noise Samhan has to have a huge year.) 6. SCU- Lost big John Bryant. Very young team I like Foster and Trasolini is good as well.(No seniors on the team.) 7. USf- With Lowhorn coming back this could be very wrong.(Dont know much about them they lost there point guard manny.) 8.Peperdine.- Lost three seniors from a already bad team.(Keion Bell is pretty good with caleb willis a new freshman guard as well.)
What is everyone else opinion and rankings for the pre season?
