Probably no surprise to devotees, but I heard on campus today from someone who seems to know about the program that Quincy would Redshirt this season. I read this several times in other postings and now believe it is true. He would have a lot of competition inside this year in any case and a year to mature might be wise. Any confirmations out there? I was on campus to look in on practice. The team had the day off after their game against Hope. Tomorrow (Friday) I hear the practice is scheduled for 5:30 am (before sunrise), perhaps so the team can move on to somewhere. The Montana tournament does not start until next Friday but is the team going up early? Or are they going elsewhere for another not-scheduled scrimmage? Go Lions!

I'm pretty sure they were planning on redshirting Quincy anyways, now with the injury its pretty much a given he will sit out the year. Practice was changed to 3:30, not in Gersten though.

From what I have heard, Quincy will have surgery on his hip. So redshirting is his best option. It also allows some of the other guys ahead of him to get closer to raduation and he doesnt waste a year on the bench. I've always believed its in the best interest of the player and team to redshirt them in basketball and football their first year unless they would recieve 40% of the playing time or there abouts. It allows them to get use to the game and grow alittle in a college weight program. Most of all it lets them get on track with school and gives them the ability to focus.
And practice before the sun comes up is normal, last year practice would happen at 5 or 530 once a week because of classes and sometimes the coaches are traveling somewhere for recruiting in the afternoon. It would be a good sign if that was the case because that means either Good would be missing practice and/or Scholl too. And the only reason those guys are recriting is to land a big recruit and show them that they care. Its all speculation on that, but its happened before. Last year I think there was a morning practice a a coaching staff spoting at either Quincy or Alexs game. But if its in the rec center then there must be a conflict in Gersten

Someone did mention about travelling somewhere on Friday so maybe Coaches are going to see their big? It's too soon to go up for next weekend's tournament.

I'm confused too. He went through a full practice today and looked healthy. Aren't red-shirts allowed to practice with the team? I'll find out more tomorrow at practice.

I believe there is a certain amount of games that can be played before applying for red-shirt. It seems Lawson injury is something he can play through until this time. I believe once the limit is reached he will stop playing and get a red shirt. The red shirt year will allow him to develop as well and heal. I hope we get to see him action in Gersten before he starts the red shirt.

Surprise, surprise - I too would like to see him in a game situation this year. I guess the rumors of surgery were not accurate.

Really cool that Gary Payton came and spoke to the team. Apparently he knew Coach Farr from up in Oakland. Made a speech to the players about how defense is 60 percent of the game and how defense can create offense.
Also, I am told that Lawson has the highest vertical on the team. When he is healthy he can be scary good. I think it would be smart to redshirt him, but it would be really interesting to see what he is capable of.
Given apparently had a HUGE dunk over Alex Osborne in practice as well. Coach was making fun of Alex after it haha.

That's funny Lamb - the Given dunk story. Glad to see Coach Good a bit more relaxed with this team than last year. Given and Alex will both make their mark in the WCC this year - all Freshman team? Garibay too?

Went over to look in on practice today shortly after 5 pm. Practice must have been earlier in the day - the team was not there. Only Garibay working on his inside moves with an assistant. And I believe Griffin Reilly was practicing separately without a boot so he must be recovering. Will all the walk-ons travel with the team for the Montana tournament or selected players only?

Great to hear that Viney and Davis will be ready Friday. We will need them for this tourney. Davis seems to have only one gear - overdrive - so I hope he does not aggravate his recovering injury by coming back too soom.
