Looks like they have a GREAT set up on Hannon Field. Tailgate starts at 6PM correct? Looking forward to seeing everybody out there. GO LIONS!

I'd love to hear a report about how the inaugural Hannon Tailgate goes. I cannot make it.

There was a nice turnout, and good atmostphere. I came hungry, but didn't get enticed into food there. Which was weird. So maybe more food options (I was looking for straight up cook out stuff like hot dogs, hot links, burgers. If they were there, I didn't find them). Otherwise, I thought it was a nice touch to get the basketball atmostphere going. The crowd at the game was enthusiastic and well numbered. Hopefully, we can keep that going, build on it, and make Hank's house on of the toughest places to play in the country.
GO LIONS

Is it going to be happening all year?

Supposed to be at every home game - but I would imagine it will depend on the turnout as the season progresses.

Not every Home game....im am kinda upset that they are not having one vs. UCSB. that is the night of Throwback jerseys! I guess the only reason they are not having one then is because it is the weekend of thanksgiving! ROAR will be there though!

Almost hate to ask, but how was the tailgate before the Academy of Art game compared to the UCI home opener?

Well the first tailgate was a really good turnout, being that it was the first one. The tailgate for A of A was very minimal. ROAR was present as well as ADG..but there were a total of about 30 0r 40 of us. not sure about who else at the other end was present

My suggestion would be to put up a fence around the tailgate event to make it more of a "beer garden" feel. Hannon Field seems to be too big an area at this point. Even with 100 or so people, it looks very empty with everyone spread out. I think fencing it off to bring folks closer together would make it more festive, thus encouraging more fans to come out. I would still allow for a good size area and allow people to bring their own drinks.

I agree with those points. As we walk from the parking lot to Gersten, what I see is a lot of empty tents/booths (don't set the extra's up if they aren't going to be used), and people in small pockets spread throughout the field. Consolidate the tailgate to a much smaller section of the field, and enclose it to look, as Lions99 suggested, like a beer garden.
Also - make the food choices a little more obvious (as an older person, I'm not all that comfortable just cruising looking for food, among the livelier youth group.) And maybe a small pretzel/churro cart, popcorn, finger food kind of stuff. With grandkids - those options would be nice as well.
I love the idea, and it's in its infancy - so please take the suggestions as positive, and not criticism. Don't give up on this idea - it's a good one.
GO LIONS!
