The first RPI poll of the year was released today. Check it out here web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2010MSOrpi1.htmlThe Lions come in at 46, just into the College Cup field. While I personally believe these ratings overvalue strength of schedule, it is interesting to see that as of now they only have one team in the 48 from a strong WCC. There are also many teams from larger conferences that jumped up considerably in this poll as compared to those decided by humans. I don't totally agree, but always nice to see all the info.

It looks like they only want to let one WCC team in this year. I think there is an east coast bias. Duke is 5-3-4 at 22 and is still rated way ahead of UCSB who ran over them.

The womens' latest rpi came out today, the mens' yesterday.
With a huge win over the #10 Broncos the ladies jumped up to 49. The team and coaches must be really excited. The NCAA usually doesn't release another report until after the tournament. The Lions appear to be in good shape going into our last game. A win or tie against USD would almost guarantee the Lions a ticket. A loss would put us near the bubble.
Portland 2, Broncos 20, USD 43, LMU 49, Peppers 82, Gonzaga 98
Friday here against USD! GO LIONS!
On the mens' side we are at 56. Saint Marys moved up ahead to 50. Portland 72, Santa Clara 84, and San Diego 114.
Only 48 mens' sides go, so you need to be well under 48 to get an at large bid. It doesn't look like an at large bid is in the cards this year for the WCC. No way, I think, to jump up high enough without winning the WCC and then you'll get the automatic bid anyway.

Massey has our women at 52, USD at 45 and the Peps at 60. The Peps could diminish the value of our win over Santa Clara by beating them this week too, but I'd look and hope for the Broncos to rebound.
Massey has the WCC men at LMU 42, SC 45, SM 46 and Port 47, interesting.

Massey has our women today at 56, they dropped us four spots one behind Pepperdine, who also beat Santa Clara. That makes things a bit more unclear. Top drawer didn't mention us in their womens top 64.
Not long now to wait and find out

The fans at Pilot Nation run a parallel rpi to predict the brackets and who gets in. They are more concerned with seeds for the Pilots and matchups but have us on the bubble with a bunch of others including USD.
They think we are in a mix of the last 15 for seven spots. Not to promising. Especially when you have to figure USD ahead of the Lions.

On the mens side we jumped up 12 on Massey to #30. Saint Marys and Santa Clara are 39 and 42.
We are now TDs pick this week for the WCC rep, showing up in the mid 40s.
Portland only has one game left against Santa Clara. They only have 18 points so they can't catch the leaders. Santa Clara also still has to play the Zags.
The most points Saint Marys (18) can get to is 24 in their remaining 2 games with us and USD. Still lots of soccer to play in the last weekend to pick the WCC winner.
Now it's down to three!
