Now that we are back in the tournament it's time for the Lions to do some damage. I don't think we can overlook any opponent starting with Sacramento State but this team really has the chance to go far. The Lions have their chance now and it's time to seize their opportunity. It will be fun watching and rooting for the Lions.
If things go well Thursday, we have the Bruins just up the road in Westwood on Sunday and then a possible rematch with San Diego or Santa Barbara. Then bring on the likes of Wake Forest. It will be a tough road but a fair one. There won't be any easy matches, every game will be a battle. I really like our chances.

We are evenly matched according to Massey Rating which is pretty good. Sac State is ranked 48, we are ranked 46. The home field advantage will hopefully give us a boost plus our momentum. Go lions!

Sacramento, RPI 94, needed to win the MPSF tourney to get in the tournament and they did just that when they needed to, winning 1-0 in the semifinal and winning a shootout in the final. They will play us tough and I agree it should be a tight game.
We both have 1-0 wins over Riverside this year. We have two ties against Santa Clara while they lost to the Broncos.
We split with USF while they won their game 2-1. The other common opponent, Bakersfield beat us 1-0 while they won 3-1.
We definitely can't look past these guys, but we had the tougher schedule and should be ready for this match up.

San Diego got a buy in the first round as expected in the first round. They play the winner of Santa Barbara and Wofford. Portland has to travel and play in the altitude of New Mexico for their first game, not an easy task and then back to North Carolina State if they win. Saint Mary's visits nearby Stanford before a possible trip to Irvine. We are in the only west coast pod without a lot of traveling in the first three rounds. That has to be a plus for us. There are no easy routes to the college cup, some are just a little harder than others. If we get by Sacramento, ours as usual, will go up the 405 through Westwood.

Sacramento State knocked us off at home yesterday 2-1 in overtime. A early end to a promising post season. The Lions and their fans were stunned and disappointed at the end after LMU tied it up late in the second half and continued to control play throughout most of the game and overtime. The Lions played with heart and showed us a lot of exciting soccer. We had our chances, it just didn't happen.
The Lions have a lot to be proud of this year. Ten quality wins over some of the toughest opponents in the country. But I'm sure they finished the year unfulfilled. Next season seems a long time from now, but I think the Lions will return committed to even greater achievements. In my mind there is no doubt that the Lions are thinking, "We'll be back".
