The Lion women lose two starting mid-fielders, two defenders and a keeper this spring along with a number of others who played a lot of quality minutes. Some possible recruits we could see coming in to fill those vacancies are Jenny Benger from Colorado and Etajha Gilmer and Tawni Martino from SC Blues in OC. Martino is a forward and has some experience with age group nat'l teams. Benger and Gilmer are defenders.

Yesterday, the NCAA posted their final mens RPI. UCLA was the highest on the west coast at 6. Others, UCSB 17, Stanford 18, San Diego State 20, Portland 21, San Diego 23, Irvine 24, LMU 25, Saint Marys 47. Impressive year for the Lions even though LMU dropped down 10 spots with our first round loss from number 15. The biggest surprise for me, was that San Diego State at 20, was left out of the tournament. Their biggest problem, probably was their record being right at 500, and 6-6-6. Not much good luck in those numbers. But their last match tie away at UCLA made them eligible. I'm sure their coaches have been asking for an explanation since the tournament started. I thought they were going to make it in myself.

The Lion Men have three commitments on tap for next season. Forwards Christian Alvarado and Trent Clifton and defender Aaron Garfinkel. Looks like the Lions are continuing to strengthen an already potent offense. The Lion defense has always been a strong point with the team. I look for the Lions to be as strong there as always. One question that needs an answer is who will be teamed with Roger Downes in central defense. Wilke Johnson has been a mainstay there for the team for a long time. I'm sure the coaches will have the answer by this spring.

Clifton is from Calabasas and Alvarado is from Anaheim. Both have played for multiple seasons for the LA Galaxy Academy developmental program. Sounds like even more experienced firepower will be available for the Lions on the Soccer pitch next season. Getting everyone playing time may be the biggest problem coach will have up front.

According to the Orange County Register Tuesday, Eric Brunter announced his commitment to LMU for next season. Eric joins Aaron Garfinkel of Las Vegas as the second defender to commit to the Lions. Eric was all Orange County last season and led Servite to a CIF championship. Ironically, Eric chose LMU on the same day one of his defensive teammates committed to Sac State. Go Lions!

Last week another local prep soccer star made the Daily Breeze in an article complete with photo after scoring the winning goal for West Torrance in a crucial league battle in the south bay. He should be high up on LMU's radar as a future prospect. The name might sound familiar, Cameron Krumpe.

The Lions have recruited a lot of soccer stars out of the south bay in the last few years. Our coaches know the south bay well and have successfully tapped into the talent we have right here in our own backyard. Is there room for more this year? Interestingly, the Daily Breeze had another front page article on unbeaten West Torrance today. It featured senior Mitchell Gorman who also plays club for our Coach Krumpe.
