San Deigo State opens their season at LMU on Wednesday 9-1. Last year was a real battle down south with us coming from behind to win. I'm sure they will be fired up for their opener against us. They finished at 500 last year and that was the only thing that kept them out of the tournament. They will be tough again.
No UCLA, no UCSB, no Creighton, no New Mexico this year. None of them have us on their posted schedules. Somewhere there is a copy of our schedule, who has it?
UCSB is hosting the College Cup next year, so we may get to play up there again anyway. We are going to be a tough team to face this coming season, I don't think UCLA or UCSB see any advantage in facing us until they must. Do you think they are avoiding the Lions?
Remember this Spring we gave UCLA all they could handle and last year beat up on the Gauchos in their stadium. The score didn't reflect the game and was only 2-1 thanks to a late UCSB goal.

The mens soccer schedule was posted today on the LMU site. Rumors say that it was ready weeks ago but misplaced under a stack of papers in the basketball office.
After a close look at the preseason schedule, I think Coach Krumpe has as usual scheduled a tough campaign for his 2010 Lion team. Lots of road games to test the Lions away from home and the only two at Sullivan Field are against San Diego State and CSUN to start the year.
The Lions are coming off a successful year but are looking to do even more this year and there is not a reason to believe they won't do better. They are bigger, faster and have a years more experience. They still want to get that WCC championship and want to make up for getting knocked out of the NCAAs in the first round last year.
That said, San Diego State and CSUN are not slouches to start the year. SD State is going to come in here very much wanting to make up for the loss we handed them at home last year to start the season. They had a twenty RPI and still didn't make the NCAAs. How did that happen? It will be easy to blame the Lions and the rest of the WCC and the four of us who got to go. The game will be a battle just like last year but I like us to win the opener. We'll have to be ready from the first whistle. If you want to see a great game don't miss this one.
The CSUN game will be the same. This time at home after last years loss there. These two definitely don't like each other and haven't for a real long time
Kentucky rpi 56 and Butler 30 will be legitimate road tests. Sac State will be a rematch of our NCAA loss. San Jose, Cal Poly and UCR are always tough opponents. There may not be a UCLA or UCSB scheduled this preseason but the schedule will be more than a fair test for our talents.
Next thing you know the world cup will be over and we'll be counting down to the days to the Lion kick off.

Sullivanfieldfan - why was the soccer schedule lost in the basketball office? (Rhetorical question.) Did we lose any key players from last year's squad? Is Baca back? And the other scoring threats?

We graduated five seniors. Wilke Jonhson was a standout center back for the last two years. Andrew Kristof also saw a lot of time in defense. Stefan Canty was listed at forward but could and did play everywhere. Brock Smith found his scoring touch up front for us last year and Patrick Sampson had some memorable games in net for us. I will miss seeing all of them play for the Lions.
But we have to move on and overall, I think the team continues to grow and will be even stronger. Rafael Baca and Vincent Ocampo will be the two seniors leading a side packed with sophomores juniors and maybe a few freshman who find playing time.
Roger Downes hopefully has recovered from his hamstring injury and will return to anchor the defense. Tyler Krumpe looks ready to play right now and if I was the opposition I wouldn't want to get in his way or the Lion's way anytime soon.
