Portland jumped up from Not Rated to #18 in the Soccer America poll after upsetting #15 Creighton. The Lions on the other hand have disappeared in that poll after losing 1-0 at Bakersfield. For whatever reason we were unable to take care of business Sunday night and therefore we lost our place in that poll. Not a happy bus trip back to LMU, I bet. Now that the conference season is here, hopefully we will refocus for the challenge. The WCC is a tough conference, number four in the country. All the games will be tough ones, starting with USF. We can't overlook any opponent, every point is crucial if we want the championship.

On the women's side of the NSCAA Coaches poll, Portland is still up there at #4, Santa Clara #11, and San Diego at #25. Someone finally noticed us and we were in the list of teams receiving points. In the regional rankings they have us "vaulting" up to #4 in the West. As a Lion fan I think that's great but before we get too excited for some reason the Coaches split the the region this year. They added the Pacific Region, which has the Pac 10 and Mountain West Conferences. The West has the WCC and the Big West. The Pac 10 dominates the Pacific Region having 9 out of 11 teams in the top ten. The WCC dominates the West Region having the top four and 6 out of ten. I think it makes the rankings less than meaningful on a regional basis when the geographical boundaries of the two overlap so closely.
