The Dons open the conference season here Friday afternoon. Its a big game for both programs. USF are defending conference champions and are led by their senior star, Conor Chinn. He knows how to score goals and he and his teammates will be a handful. They are 3-3-1. Don't be deceived, they have a nice win over New Mexico, narrow losses to Stanford and Sac State and a loss to Cal. And I'm sure they remember the last game against the Lions, when we came from behind to beat them here 5-4, they will be ready. Coming off our last game in Bakersfield we should be ready to play and focused. If we show up with the intensity we displayed in that last game against the Dons it will be a real battle. It helps to get off to a good start in conference, I think our guys will be ready. It should be a great start to the conference season. And yeah, I'm looking forward to tailgating before the matches. You guys said its been approved for this season right? Another good reason to support soccer and the Lions!

Congratulations to the Lions for pulling out a tie against USF. Down 1-0, we did not have our best effort on a key penalty kick and ended the half 1-0. SF scored first in the second half, despite constant offensive pressure by the Lions. But we got one back when the SF goalie dropped a corner kick and it was an easy put back. Then with about 5 minutes left, Baca took a long pass on the left wing, beat his man and the goalie too to tie the game. ;D We had even more opportunities to win but ran out of time. Way to go Lions! Nice way to start the weekend!

Not quite sure when you left the game Wrschnicke - but the lions scored in the first over time and took home the win 3-2.
It was one of the best games I've seen at Sullivan Field.

I agree it was a such a great game. These Lions can really play when they put their minds to it. The boys have a lot to be proud of coming back from two down and winning in overtime. They hung in there and their tenacious attitude was remarkable to watch. It was exciting and then to see their effort rewarded at the end. What a great team! We are off to a fabulous start!

The overtime was more of what the Lions did in the second half. Control the ball and pressure the Dons. The winner was on a counter, when the Dons got a little too forward allowing an outlet to Rafa. He brought it down the left side as USF recovered and crossed to Da Silva in the right corner. Phil's goal was dramatic, he worked his way through two or three defenders and fired it into the net.
USF might have thought the Lion comeback last season didn't mean much as everything in the standings was decided. But the Lions did it again and this time the Dons know LMU is for real. We have a long way to go to rest the title away from USF and keep it out of the hands of everyone else. The Lion played yesterday like that's what they intend to do. Portland is next away and they are ranked and coming off a win over Santa Clara. Go Lions!
