Two big double headers this weekend on Sullivan field. The women play Gonzaga and Portland in the early game Friday and Sunday. The women need a result against Gonzaga for sure to stay in the hunt for a berth.
The men need to bounce right back in the late games against Santa Clara and St Mary's. Last weekend the men let their early advantage in conference and against the Zags slip away and then dropped another to Portland on the road. I'm sure they'll be anxious to turn things around and grab some points at home. San Diego picked up two road wins and are trying to run away with the points lead. We have to play catch up now. Every conference game in the WCC is a battle and these two will not be an exception.
Lots of exciting soccer this weekend!

The Lady Lions came away with a nice win over Gonzaga yesterday 2-1. Lily Sorentino returned to the lineup for some minutes which is a good sign for the Lions in games to come. The forward line combined for one goal and the midfield for the other. Sunday the #2 Pilots arrive. The Lion defense will really have to pack in tight from the start to hold off Portland. They zipped the Peppers yesterday 6-0. It will be a challenge to keep them out of our goal and slow down the juggernaut. I'll be cheering for the Lions to do just that. Our defense can be tough!
In other WCC action St Mary's upset San Diego and Santa Clara beat USF. Things behind Portland are tightening up and every game will be a battle. Our conference away schedule is formidable with 3 of 4 after Portland on the road. We will obviously need multiple wins on the road to get through.
