A lovely afternoon in LA was spent taking in the LMU-Santa Clara men's soccer game. I arrived a bit late to find LMU down 0-1, a score which held until halftime. A physical game throughout, the Lions tied the game early in the second half on a header from #19 after a great indirect kick from #15, who played a great game all afternoon. After tying in regulation, the tired teams spent all their remaining energy trying to score fruitlessly in two 10-minute overtime periods. Result: 1-1 vs Santa Clara. Nice effort LMU!

I thought we had much more of the play than the Broncos throughout the game. We just couldn't seem to connect at crucial times to push another goal over the line. The Bronco goal at the start was deflating. It took half the game to pull even and drained a lot of energy and emotion. Still it always looked like we would be the ones to win. The tie I'm sure was less than the Lions wanted or deserved. Sunday is St Mary's, we need to defend our home field and take three points.
Downes didn't dress, and the rest of our back line is getting nicked up a bit. Fortunately we have a lot of players more than capable of filling in defensively.

St Mary's climbed over San Diego into first place with their 2-0 win over the Toreros and USF jumped back into the fight with their win over Portland. A win tomorrow becomes more crucial now for the Lions to stay in contention. St Mary's is leading the pack, time to knock them off their pedestal.
