I saw a soccer blog saying Rafael Baca has been training with the San Jose Earthquakes. It indicated he got 61 minutes of playing time in one of their preseason games. Hoping for the best for Rafie.
it was the espn.go.com/blog

Big Soccer. com/forum/showthread reports today that Rafael Baca has signed a contract with the San Jose Earthquakes pending league approval. Go Quakes!
Congratulations to Rafie! This is the first post I've seen indicating his signing.

ESPN has another article on Rafie's signing on their blog. You need to read this one. You can find it at espn.go.com/blog. It details Rafie's route to the Earthquakes and his try out after not being picked up in the MLS draft. The blog gives thanks to David Kucera as Rafie's guardian angel for providing Rafie an opportunity to show the talent we know he possesses.
Maybe fanblade or another "wizard" of computers will post the link for me so we can all read it. I apologize for my lack of computer literacy.

Today Rafie had 2 assists and a goal for San Jose in 4-0 scrimmage against Cal Bears. Another Lion alumnus, Bobby Burling also had an assist for the Earthquakes.

Now Rafie's on his way to England tomorrow with the Earthquakes to train and play against the Hotspurs of the English Premier League. Wow! How fast things can happen, just amazing. I think it's great. Well done Rafie!

Kudos to RAFIE - I met his dad at games and I expect Rafie to take advantage of his opportunity in the big leagues. He is a talent and his team play at LMU may have fooled scouts about his offensive skills re the MLS dratt. Go Baca!

Yesterday, Rafie played in San Jose's final exhibition against Colorado Rapids in San Luis Obispo. Reports say he played well in the middle. San Jose won 1-0.

You can see both Rafa and Bobby Burling playing for San Jose in this highlight from the Earthquakes website. Baca is #30 and Burling #2. sjtv.neulion.com/mlsvp/console.jsp?catid=1883&id=17264Rafa upped his minutes to 86 in his third straight appearance. Burling played 90 minutes again.

Rafa played 90 minutes in his first start for San Jose tonight. That was the good news. The bad news San Jose lost 4-0.

Rafa, Bobby Burling and the Earthquakes will be in L.A. this weekend to play the Galaxy! We may get a chance to see two LMU alumni on the field at the same time in an MLS game right here in our own backyard. The galaxy just signed Robbie Keane. Wouldn't he be exciting to see matched up against a couple of former Lions!
