www.dailybreeze.com/sports/ci_18722485Another day, another article in the Daily Breeze about LMU soccer! This time about Rafa. Tonight he returns to LA with the Earthquakes to face the Galaxy. Rafa shares the front page of the sports section with the other LA soccer headline welcoming Robbie Keane to the Galaxy. How neat is that? Tonight the Galaxy send out David Beckham and Robbie Keane to face two of LMU's alumni Bobbie Burling and Rafael Baca. Won't that be exciting?

Rafa got the start and played the whole match against the galaxy last night as did Burling. Rafa played well, in the first half a bit defensively in the middle. In the second half when the Quakes were trying to equalize he was pushing forward and directing much of the attack. Amazing to watch Rafa and Bobby Burling matched up against Keane, Beckham and Frankie Heduk. They both did well and it was clear Baca was trying his best to impact the game in his return to L.A.
I didn't miss a call from my seat in the second deck, I can't say the same for the refs. They were harsh on the Quakes. It looked to me the galaxy were offsides on Keanes goal. The linesman was 5 yards behind the play and looked like he let it go. Burling lodged a complaint to no avail. Baca got knocked over and drew a yellow as he crashed into the box trying to attack, it was a bit harsh as was the red card the Quakes got for stepping on a proned out Donovan.

www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminute/2011/08/highlights-la-galaxy-vs-san-jose-2-%e2%80%93-0/Check out this link from Top Drawer for Galaxy / San Jose highlights. The first goal could have been offsides, it's hard to tell and remember the linesmen wasn't where he was supposed to be. Tough luck for Burling and SJ. Highlights also show shot by Baca that Saunders saves. The red card doesn't look that bad to me. Where do you want the SJ player to go and he really doesn't stomp on Donovan. If you ask me Donovan is "simulating" and feigning injury. Finally does Magee ever get back on sides from his offsides position before the second goal? I think it is very close, any experts out there have an opinion?

Looking at it again Magee may be onside because he is behind the ball when it is played into the middle even though he is in front of the defenders. I really think the red card was harsh.

Baca and Burling playing in front of 60K+ as Seattle honors Keller in his last regular season home game! How great is that?

Rafa provided a nice through ball to Wondo to give San Jose the lead 1-0. The Earthquakes could not make it stand up and surrendered to late goals. I'm sure I am biased but Rafa and Burling are two of San Jose's better players. They almost combined at the end on a long cross from Baca to a diving Burling as he ran into the box. Keller saved Burling's header and ended the threat.

For all you soccer fans out there waiting for Sunday's Euro Cup final with Spain v Italy don't forget that Saturday night at 7 the Galaxy are on ESPN2 v San Jose. Rafael will be in the Earthquake midfield against David Beckham and the boys from LA. The Quakes are leading their conference and the Galaxies (haha) are on a hot streak, should be fun watching.
