Now that we just watched the USA Women win the Gold in London it is time to turn our attention to our LMU Women who open the season Saturday at 4:00 pm on Sullivan Field.
I'm looking forward to a great season! A lot of scoring and wins last spring are signs that LMU will be tough to deal with this year.
The Matadors will be visiting from the valley ..... see you there! GO LIONS!!!!

It was posted on the seventh. LMU slotted in the number seven spot. No one from LMU on the pre season all conference team. Hmmmmmmm. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things play out.

After a fast start last year the women had a poor showing in the WCC, 1-6-1. The WCC is a tough conference for sure, but other than the 4-0 loss to Santa Clara and the away loss to BYU the other matches were close. I'm optimistic that we'll get off to another fast start and be in position for a better conference showing. Based on our finish last year you can't find much fault with the coaches ranking us where they did. But I will be very surprised if we don't finish much higher up the ladder when the season ends. Injuries often play a big part in any teams overall performance, if LMU stays healthy, a top half of the table finish and a berth in the post season remains possible!

Lions won 2-1 in exhibition! Well things looked good yesterday considering last years 3-0 loss to the Matadors. Until the Lions subbed in all the freshman in the final 30 minute period the Lions were throwing another shutout. The defense is as strong as always and the back four played very well. Gilmer made at least three Matadors pay when they tried to run through her. Sharpe also impressed me at outside back. The Lions connected nicely on their first goal and the second showed their dominance in controlling and fighting for the ball. All the Lions saw playing time and there were a lot of new faces on the field. In all a very positive start to the new season! On the other side of the ledger Linda Bakker didn't return to the team this season and her presence and strength up front will have to be replaced. And of course Rachel Fell will provide added strength to the defense when she returns to the line up.

Great job by the Lions against the number one ranked Bruins! And the Bruins are that good. After Wisconsin I think the Lions amped it up and got it together. Listening to Martino talking about the upcoming game against the Bruins you knew they would be ready. Good job Ladies. GoLIONS!

What a game for the Lady Lions at Pepperdine! Congratulations to everyone, WOW! A 3-0 win, scoring three goals in the first eleven minutes and then shutting the Peppers out the rest of the way. The Peppers were ranked fifteen but the Lions looked head and shoulders better on the field in Malibu today. The Peppers had their chances but the Lions matched them all over the field both in effort and execution. A great win for LMU and everyone connected to LMU Soccer. I haven't had the opportunity to see the Lions many times this season but what a great game to see in person! Well Done Lions!

The NCAA updated their RPI stats today. LMU jumped from 72ish to number 50. The WCC has BYU at 5, Santa Clara at 8, the Peppers at 16, and Portland at 24. The WCC is one of the toughest conferences in the country. The big win Friday moved us way up. Three big conference matches to go. Gonzaga and Portland are away, then BYU at home. Still lots of work and opportunity ahead. Go LIONS! Check here to see where everyone in the country is placed. www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa_womens_soccer_rpi

The Peppers only dropped to 18 in the NSCAA coaches poll. Over at Top drawer they have 4 WCC teams projected going to the dance with Portland the fourth one at number 28.

www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa_womens_soccer_rpi NCAA poll on 10-29 has LMU at # 76 one ahead of USD. The WCC is assurred of sending four teams to the playoffs. Note Portland is not ranked but has a higher RPI than the Peppers. The Lions were close, a couple of results and we wouldve couldve. Still a season to be proud of and build on...... and especially that away win in Malibu.....,

The womens final four starts tonite at USD. I wonder what shape the field is in for soccer. USD last played football at home 20 days ago and is still in the playoffs and has probably been practicing there. Somehow I'm thinking the teams left won't be that pleased.
