UNLV's Dave Rice will target former Loyola Marymount head coach Max Good as assistant Heath Schroyer's replacement, source told CBS Sports. Hopefully this will work out for Max. I wonder if any players will follow him.....

Excellent!! I pray that happens as I know Coach and his wife will relocate to Las Vegas. Further, he deserves a good soft landing. Although Coach Good did not have a good W-L record here, He did leave the program much better than he found it and did yeoman work when the team was all but abandoned at the start of his tenure. He returned us to a D-1 program and he turned the media into a cheering fan for our program, because of his reputaion and personality. I don't get it, but he had to be the unluckiest coash as far as injuries and such were concerned. But I say, with heartfelt gratitude, thanks Max! and all the coaches. I think we can build up from here. We were below level ground when you all came.

Ditto Waterboy and pump - I'm rooting for Max also. Max currently lives in Westchester with a nice home and can sell and buy a small mansion in Vegas and have $300-500K in the bank besides. Best wishes to Max. Please don't take all our best guys Max - come on remember Lions' Pride?

Max was going to be named to the soon to be title special assistant at UNLV. Now that Heath Schroyer is taking the Tenn-Martin job there is a full-time assistant position open in Rebel land. Either way he likely lands on Maryland Parkway next year. He still has a house in Vegas as well as Nevada tags on his car. Plus he was all over campus and town during the MWC tournament. (I ran in to him twice, and believe me I don't go seeking him out).
While the Rebels could use his brand of discipline (and for all of Max's shortcoming keeping the team out of trouble and being quick to boot the troublemakers was not one of them), the article strangely touted Max's strengths as an X and O's tactician. I'm guessing they didn't watch any Lion games the past two years, lol.

Its quite possible he was not encouraged to stay if I am guessing correctly. He wasn't on scholarship so it is not a significant event for the team's composition.

Food for thought for everyone, but especially curious what rebelfan and greendoberman think...
With UNLV head coach Dave Rice reportedly being offered the South Florida job, do you think Rice will take Max Good with him to South Florida...or, if Rice does leave, would UNLV dare hand the keys to Max?

It was a leverage move for Rice. He used USF's offer in an attempt to get what he wanted - obviously an extension and more money are part of it, but not the heart. Rice wants program enhancing things added. Believe it or not, UNLV has a garbage budget, especially in comparison to what the fanbase demands on the floor. Adding things like chartered flights (to some games) - flying into Denver and then bussing through snowstorms to play at Wyoming isn't easy - especially when other schools charter that flight direct to Wyoming. Included were creating the special assistants job. Dedicated academic advisor for basketball. Dedicated tutors. Money for grad assistants. Things of that nature were at the crux of negotiations. I expect some, not all, to be met with the agreement to work towards the others.
I fully expect the special assistant job to be created and filled shortly.

Good luck to him - I didn't know much about him but have a feeling he was a key recruiter in landing some of our top recruits from the LA area last year before Max left. Let's hope he recruits in the middle of America rather than come and steal our talent from California.
