Where would they sit if there was a standing section?
That's what I'm trying to say -- that IS the standing section. ANYONE who has been to Gersten Pavilion more than once in the past few years should know that by now. If they don't, they're not paying attention.

Some folks are not veteran attendees and don't like those who came to the sold out Notre Dame game. Why penalize them and have them leave with a sour taste in their mouths?

Well...you have to consider....my guess is that the people who pay the most for the tickets are the ones who get the priority....why not stand up?
I really think that there be some sort of clarification. They should make the whole section with the Alumni a "standing room only" section and forewarn anyone who buys tickets there that this is the case. I don't think it's fair to make the fans who pay for a whole season's worth of tickets sit down for people who show up for one game.
In all honesty, it's the fault of the Athletic Department for not considering these things when making such decisions. I, for one, HATE sitting down during a game. I never did as a student and don't feel comfortable doing it now. I am so used to standing up that I can't stand sitting down because there's so much energy that I have to stand up. I pay for the tickets within the section that will allow me to stand....

I agree and disagree. I think the young alumni should be able to stand, as that is how they can show the most support for their team. I also think that those buying seats behind the young alumni should know that they like to stand.

Thanks Lambdachi You are obviously a thoughtful person. I am too old to stand the whole game otherwise I would buy seats in the bleachers where you can see the whole field of play. Obviously, insulting the other teams' players is not my priority - I am a fan of both LMU and basketball!

I've been going to SMC-LMU games since it was "Loyola". Saw some especially great games in the run-and-gun era. Last night was sad. The ten or so screaming whackos in the first row behind the SMC bench should have been tossed early (yeah, two were led away in handcuffs towards the end of the game). LMU obviously came out playing rough, led by the classy, calm leadership of Coach Good. When the typical WCC refs let the game get out of hand, what happened with Samhan and Walker was inevitable. Were there more than 50 students there last night? Don't think so. You want to talk about the fans that sit there. I am one of them and we said nothing derogatory or hurtful or used bad language. I also love the fans who complain about season ticket holders, when they can't even sit in the right seats and sneak down. We have some older fans that sit next to us and they understand why we stand, that is why the moved to the other side of us. And you want to come attack our coach. The first thing your coach did every time-out was cus out the refs. Bennett was b*tching like a baby because he couldn't take a little razzing after interfering on a fast break that was never called. The two that were escorted out had nothing to do with the season ticket holders. We told them to get out. St. Mary's showed they are very week minded. The whole idea of trash talking is to get into the other teams head. St. Mary’s couldn’t handle it I can't wait until LMU has a full roster and not just 8 people versus 13. Also LMU has the number 1 recruiting class in the WCC. Also, unlike Moraga, LMU is located is in a place where there are more important things to do than playing butt pirates and hugging trees. So if you are going to talk sh*t on this board like you are just get off this board if you can not be more respectful.

I find it AMAZING that the Young Alum section is always painted out to be this group of wild animals - I know for a FACT that you all are the classiest they get when it comes to heckling. You get creative. You say things that are rather humorous. The fact of the matter is that you know how to get into the heads of the players without lowering your standards to use foul language or say "you suck." I should know. I learned everything I know from you guys and have always looked up to you.

Hey, Mr. LMU'04, some of us "butt pirates" (very funny) own our homes on the Marina Peninsula. I admit it, I'm one of them thar "week minded" Gaels, so very impressed that the "young alumni section" managed to bring out maybe 15 people last night. You guys used to have a classy, competitive program. Apparently no longer.

Why do you find it necessary to talk crap about the fact that people simply can't afford the tickets for the young alumni section? Has that ever occurred to you? Gee - sorry we only have 15 young alums who can actually afford to buy the season tickets, let alone $25 a game tickets in these hard times.
The YA section has only been around for a few years. Most YAs can't afford to live anywhere near LMU once they graduate. That and the fact that there's an age cap on the people in there. Not just ANYONE can sit there.
Really. That's pretty sad that you've just signed on to make fun of the fact that we only have 15 young alums willing enough to pay the bucks to get the tickets. How classy.

I also love how a bunch of their classless posters keep claiming there were only "50" Loyola fans. Does anyone teach arithmetic up there in Moraga or are those poor dears still counting on their hands! I've always said this, and I know it makes little sense in the scheme of things, but I'd rather have a small group of classy fans than a large group of idiots making the school look bad.

Who cares how many people were at the game, or what some random NorCal dude thinks about our program?

The Gael fans are completely deluded. Will be fun to watch them crash and burn once Mills is gone. They are all slobbering over each other how great they are but conveniently forget they were in the basement far longer than LMU! My o my how a trip to the NCAAs and a quick exit can make someone feel like king of the world. One guy is saying that the intentional foul against Young was the best thing he'd ever seen in gaels basketball. Pretty pathetic. Thugs for players and fans.

I use to sit next close by the "young alumni" section and I'm glad I don't any more. I never saw the point of yelling vile and obnoxious things at the opponents players and coach staff. It anything thing it only motivates them to play harder. What is the point? Does yelling out personal attacks make you feel better? I'm not talking about the St. Mary's game I'm taking about in general. I hope the few fans that give us a bad name learn to control themselves and grow up a little. Maybe I'm just a idealist- I know in every sport team has fans that are out of control.
I know their are a lot of Great SMC fans. GaelHoopfreak for one is a class act. But for the ones who come on here and bash our program while its down that is just pathetic. Compare LMU's and SMC basketball programs pedigree and history and you might think twice about saying things like we are the "NJIT of the west coast". Sure St. Mary's is doing well now but a few years ago you won 2 games. I have enjoyed rooting for St. Mary's rise and success but after watching some of the players actions in our most recent game and some of the Gael fan comments...I find it hard to do so.

I was in that Young Alumni section on Saturday. I'm not here to argue with anyone about what anyone thinks the Young Alums should or shouldn't be doing.
I would simply like to let you know that no one was led out in handcuffs. The people who were led out by security were LMU STUDENTS who had come over to our side of the gym to say hi to a friend on the St. Mary's bench who had not seen a minute of playing time all night. When Bennett finally allowed that player to take off his warm-ups and go out on the court, those students and the young alums all cheered for that St. Mary's player, we didn't heckle or berate. Then, with just over a minute left of playing time left, security very crudely escorted the LMU students out of the gym for not sitting in their assigned seats, even though they had allowed St. Mary's fans to sit in section 102 instead of their assigned 202 for the entire first half.
And yes, some of those SMC players are unbelievable. They turned around to cuss at our row multiple times during the game, and everyone in our section knows that if we utter a single cuss word we will get tossed out of the game. At least the Gonzaga players giggled at most of the barbs we threw at them to get in their head a little.
