The 2009 APR was released and two WCC schools were on the penalty list.
Both USF and Pepperdine will lose two scholarships for having their APR being low.
After looking at the numbers we all need to say thank you to Rodney T for bringing in players that knew they had to get it done in the classroom. While I'm not saying the current players are unable that remains to be seen, but the recent purging of players from the program killed our APR. Looking at the numbers.
The Year T was hired we scored perfect 1000, everyone was eligible everyone returned and graduated if they were suppose too.
After his first year we scored a 974 as Victor did not return to school after going home.
The second Year 971.
And then after the tearing apart of the roster our score was brought down so far that it averaged with the other three a 949. which means by just averaging the numbers a 851.
I hope it doesn't become a normal thing that we just get rid of players because we went from being a top 5 institution 4 years ago to not looking good at all.
Hopefully the new guys can show that it was a one time thing and make up the difference, and show it was a fluke.
While the athletic teams did not always provide on the court they did their job in the classroom. And the coaches made a commitment to players.

I saw a question about the APR on the WCC news board.
Yes its all academics.
If a player is eligible and stay at the institution then they earn 2 points.
If the player is eligible and does not return or the opposite then the institution gains one point of thepossible two
If the player is ineligible and not returning then they get a 0 out of 2.
This keeps players like Adam Morrison who knowing that he was going to leave early did not go to class because it can effect the school. It didnt as no one else left early but imagine if UNC had that happen with 4 juniors. They would lose 8 points.
I think there may be something like a graduation bonus but i cant remember and could not find it online.
But in terms of sanctions if a team falls below 925 for a four year average then action can be taken. It can range form the loss of scholarships, to post season play, to practice time.
Hopefully this answers some questions but like anything everyting else and college sports there are hidden pieces like the BCS.

Yeah, i think part of the problem this year may have been Isaiah Jenkins. I'm not sure he ever found a new school.

Thanks for the posting. There must be some refinements on the APR scale to account for mixed situations. For example, when Damian Martin graduated with one year eligibility left at LMU but decided to return to his native Australia, did LMU earn only one point? This is not so different from a Senior graduating having used his four years of eligibility and not returning, is it? Usually we have only 13-15 players on the team and if we get two points each, that adds up to 30 or so. How do you get to the numbers in the 900's? Or get a 1000? I need to do more googling myself on the process. I do see how we got creamed last year with the Bayno changeover and so many eligible players leaving.
