Sad story - was in all the local papers as well. If this is what it takes to be a high-level Division I team, LMU certainly doesn't need it. Wooden (and a lot of other successful coaches) never did anything like this as he was a class act. Does Floyd need to resort to such tactics to bring in the "one and done" recruits to USC?

You are correct. Who is Sam Gilbert?

wrschnicke - greendoberman was reacting to your statement that John Wooden "never did anything like this".
Sam Gilbert was a UCLA booster during the Wooden glory years and rumors have been floated for years that Sam was breaking a lot of rules. Wooden has always denied knowing anything about what Sam was or was not doing - and the NCAA has never claimed anything wrong took place - but the rumors and speculation have never quite gone away.
So, when you say that Wooden "never did anything like this" - there are a lot of people who would say that he did but never got caught.
Anyways - that is who Sam Gilbert is. (was).
Carry on.
