This is not a joke. I am curious what occupies the basketball coaches time in the off season. NCAA limited coaches contact with recruits in April, I saw. Now as we move into the summer, and I know they are not slackers, how do the coaches spend their time? Can they work with players informally in Burns Rec? Are they out there visiting future recruits (not until 2011 unless unexpected happens)? Are they working on their tans? (Just a joke.) Visiting Australia? Africa? Junior college prospects? Whatever? I am curious.

Thanks for your response alert2 - you are probably correct. And yes, they need to prepare for the unexpected. I don't know if anyone noticed but the entire WCC had a good recruiting year - adding size and depth almost across the board - Pepperdine may be an outlier here. So, despite our improved team, this will be a very competitive season. Back to what the coaches do, can the coaches work with the team at all - other than perhaps weight training? And with no games scheduled, how do they look at future talent unless there are pick up games somewhere to witness. I knoll Coach Scholl has Africa connections from his time there - which brought us Kalipinde, so I threw that into the hopper. And it is winter in Australia, so perhaps the basketball game is afoot there now. Although it seems we lost our Australian connection to Saint Marys - can't Knight and Martin send a few select names through to LMU? I suppose they can also work on improving their playbook if there is such a thing in college basketball.

+1 alert2.
I also hope that they spend a little more time with their families, and away from Gersten.

Coaches also run a "team" camp where HS and club teams play against each other. I believe the team camp is either this week or next week. Coaches will usually invite teams with players they are recruiting.
If anybody gets a chance to go to the team camp, it is easy to tell what players/team the coaches are interested in.
That link is for a camp for kids, which is usually a huge money maker for the school and the third assistant coach, who gets a cut of the money made.

I am reading about commits for the future following sessions at "Elite" summer camps at various schools. The most recent was Tim Hardaway, Jr. commiting to Michigan. Does LMU have a summer camp with our coaches? (Not the Kobe deal.)
