::)Reggie Murphy - center for Westchester's California Championship team this year - should be a prospect for our 2011 class. Nothing official from LMU but this is my take. Murphy is a handful in the paint, stands 6'9" (and still growing) and a real 230 lbs; he has great potential. Here is his latest evaluation from ESPN scouting reports: "February, 2009: Murphy is one of the most improved prospects on the west coast. He has a strong frame, solid length, and deceptive bounce. He gets most of his points filling the lane in transition and offensive put-backs. He is blessed with great hands and overall has a very soft touch around the basket. He is highly effective in a pick-and-roll set and he can also knock down the shot at the elbow. He has the frame to be an effective low-post scorer, but his skills need to be addressed. Overall, he is one of the top sleepers in the West." Currently listed as a power forward, rated 86 (#57 on the list) with no schools under consideration. Get to work Jared!

Today's article from the Daily Breeze on the Westchester team:
Westchester Sizzles in Summer Ball The Westchester boys basketball team has sizzled so far this summer, winning the Fairfax Tournament and the Watts Summer games after winning the LA City Sectional Title and the CIF Division I state crown this past season. At the Fairfax Tournament, Westchester topped Serra in the semifinals and Long Beach Poly in the finals. Then at the Watts Summer Games, Westchester beat Long Beach Jordan in the semifinals and Crenshaw in the finals. “We are playing pretty well right now, especially for the summer,” Westchester coach Ed Azzam said. “We have eight kids coming back, so they should have a pretty good clue of what they’re doing.” Denzel Douglas was named the tournament MVP at the Watts Summer Games and Assam said Jordin Mayes also played well there. Dwyan Polee and Reggie Murphy had strong efforts at the Fairfax Tournament.
Dwyan Polee, class of 2010, from ESPN:
Dwayne Polee | SF Hometown Los Angeles, CA High School Westchester High School Position rank Small Forward # 34 Height 6'7" Weight 180 lbs. Scouts Grade 89
Evaluation June, 2009: Polee has to add a considerable amount of strength and muscle to his frame, but he has a great deal of upside and room for development. His ability to develop other aspects of his game and not rely almost exclusively on his incredible athleticism will determine his ultimate place among national prospects. Polee has explosive leaping ability and can seemingly finish above the rim at will. He will connect on a jumper from the perimeter, but he has a low release point and needs to become more consistent in addition to adding a pull-up jumper to his game, instead of relying on runners when he goes off the bounce but cannot get to the rim. His lack of strength also causes him to avoid contact and miss finishes at the rim instead of going over defenders. He also needs to continue to improve his ball-handling skills.
Verbal commitment to USC.
Jordan Mayes, class of 2010, from ESPN:
Jordin Mayes | SG ESPNU 100 Rank: #80 Hometown Los Angeles, CA High School Westchester High School Position rank Shooting Guard # 25 Height 6'3" Weight 175 lbs. Scouts Grade 93 May, 2009: Jordin has always been a pretty good jump shooter off the pass. But his repertoire as a scorer is growing with his increased ability to beat defenders off the dribble to penetrate for layups or passes, or mid-range jumpers. In tournament (HAX in Hawthorne, CA) and camp (Pangos, Long Beach, CA) settings in May, he appeared to be a better passer in transition than in half-court settings. His ball-handling is more than adequate enough to play off the ball in college but it will have to improve 2013 especially when pressured by quicker defenders 2013 if he is to spend considerable time running an offense on the next level.
Considering Utah, Colorado, Santa Clara, San Diego and Cal.
Reggie Murphy, who fits LMU's calendar, already noted

In today's Daily Breeze: "Prep notebook: Comets continue to impress By Tony Ciniglio, Staff Writer Posted: 07/06/2009 11:11:07 PM PDT The Westchester boys basketball team continued its impressive summer tour, winning its third straight tournament last weekend. Westchester captured the Carson Tournament, overcoming Serra in overtime in an exciting final after topping West Torrance in the semifinals. Serra beat Leuzinger in overtime in its semifinal. "Westchester's good," Carson coach Dominique Street said. "In fact, Westchester, Serra and Leuzinger, those guys are all good." Westchester, the defending L.A. City Section and CIF Division I state champion, also has won the Fairfax Tournament and the Watts Summer Games this summer. Westchester also needed to beat Serra in the Fairfax Tournament semifinals. Street said he was impressed by Westchester's approach. "They don't take any plays off, man," Street said. "Every player understands their role. They're good." www.dailybreeze.com/sports/ci_12766315

I have not heard that we are after him. There was certainly a lot more to talk about last year. We have all our players and recruits and we just have the dog days of summer before the season starts. I have been going by campus but haven't been able to catch a summer pick up game yet.

Murphy is not the best player on the Comets team at present but next year he is only a junior. His size is like Terron Sutton but right now he is more skilled and has learned team play par excellance from Azzam at Westchester High. Westchester plays smart ball, a trait that carries well into college. I'm not sure he is of the caliber of the players identified by ironlions who are on our radar screen but young men develop rapidly at this stage in their careers and his ratings could climb rapidly, especially considering the caliber of play of Westchester's opponents.
