Thanks fanblade - dang if you did not pick the same 4 photos of (25) I had selected. #14 is Rosario as easily seen in the last photo who is leading all players in the games in scoring average - 26.6 ppg. Kevin looks like he is having fun to me!

As expected, PR lost to Croatia and Canada lost to the US - so PR plays Canada tomorrow. Kevin shot 2 for 5 for 4 points and only 2 rebounds in 27 minutes. Croatia outrebounded PR 41-27. For Canada, Arop shot 2/9 for 8 points with 5 boards and Olynyk put in 14 points with 7 boards - both playing about 26 minutes.

Puerto Rico won its latest game over Canada and now will play Argentina for 5th place. So so game for Kevin - 9 points on 11 shots. He is currently averaging 8.6 ppg (4th in team) and 5.4 rpg (2nd in team). Here are some comments from the game story. By the way PR is not in Central America...
"The Central Americans stepped it up on the boards after half time with Kevin Young grabbing 5 rebounds for the quarter, and Carlos Lopez 5 points and 3 boards.
When Young dunked in style to start the last quarter Puerto Rico led 57-47 and seemed on their way before Arop stepped in to almost steal the game for Canada."

Puerto Rico edges Canada 67 to 65 on last second shot - Young 9 pts 9 boards and 2 steals, Arop 20 pts 9 rbds, Olunyk 12 pts, 6 rbds. Full report:
AUCKLAND (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Puerto Rican point guard Jio Fontan has hit the game winning shot with 2.6 seconds to play, lifting his team over Canada, 67-65, and into the playoff for 5th spot at the FIBA U19 World Championship.
After Canadian captain Kelly Olynk had connected on two free throws to tie the game with 23 seconds remaining, Puerto Rico cleared the floor for Fontan who duly delivered on a tough drive.
Earlier, it appeared Mangisto Arop had set up a Canadian victory, leading them back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit. He scored 8 points in five minutes and found Olynk under the basket as Canada took a 63-61 lead with 3:01 to play.
Canada led 20-18 at quarter time, after claiming 15 boards to 6, and the trend continued in the second period. Canada pulled down 15 offensive boards to lead the half time rebound count 29-17.
For Puerto Rico, their free shooting in the open court, led by Jio Fontan, was enough to keep their country within one at half time, 34-35.
The Central Americans stepped it up on the boards after half time with Kevin Young grabbing 5 rebounds for the quarter, and Carlos Lopez 5 points and 3 boards.
When Young dunked in style to start the last quarter Puerto Rico led 57-47 and seemed on their way before Arop stepped in to almost steal the game for Canada.
Arop finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds, and was helped by Tristan Thompson, who recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes. Canada face France in the playoff for 7th position on Sunday at 11:00am.
For Puerto Rico, Fontan was superb with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Their other game winners were Young (9 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Lopez (7 points, 10 rebounds , 4 blocks), whose performances on the boards against the big Canadians were decisive.
Puerto Rico play Argentina for 5th place at 1:30pm.
Carlos Lopez, Puerto Rico :
“The coach was mad at us in the (half time) locker room. If we are going to play against a good team we have to rebound. I talked to Kevin (Young) and we decided to go at everything and give 100%, it was like a gold medal game right here.
It’s tough (bouncing back after loss to Croatia), because we were right there with them last night. You try to not think about it. We had a meeting at the hotel and decided that we just have to play, we have nothing to lose, and we are in the top six teams in the world now.
Everybody trusts Jio, he’s our point guard. We told him just make a move and we’ve got you, if you miss we’ll be there for you. It’s about trusting. If you trust your teammate he’s going to trust you back and you’ll have a great team.”
Puerto Rico plays Argentina for fifth place today.

This gig is over for Kevin - what great experience he gained especially re team play with and against highly skilled competition. Argentina wihpped PR today 92 -70. Kevin's team finished in 6th place in the tournament. Kevin had a bad day - perhaps the game was over early - but he scored 0 points with 2 rebounds in 14 minutes. Coach apparently cleared the bench to let second string players get experience. In parallel, Canada beat France 82-74 to finish in 7th place. Gonzaga recruits Arop and Olynyk scored 16 and 8 points respectively with 2 and 14 boards in 29 and 25 minutes. Overall, Young averaged 7.7points shooting 56% (his shot selection was constrained) in 23 mpg - #67 out of 187 world class players in the tournament. Arop placed #9 with 16.2 ppg in 23 minutes and Olynyk #37 with 11.2 ppg in 27 mpg. My overall take - great experience for Kevin - perhaps somewhat humbling. And watch out for these two Gonzaga freshmen who will make their mark in the WCC next year. The good news is Arop is 6'6", 185 lbs rated 88 - practically identical to the stats for Quincy Lawson who joins our squad next year. Let's hope Quincy plays near the potential of Arop next season.

Agree texascat - US had the talent and won an interesting game over Greece in the final 88-80. Thanks for your comment - I was worried about talking to myself here even though I know everyone could see results from the FIBA site in any case. Part of the summer doldrums syndrome!

Nice report from Kevin on his experience in the games - most of you devotees will have seen this already. Bodes well for his attitude toward the upcoming season - intensity 100% at all times, compatible with Coach Good's philosophy. www.lmulions.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081409aab.html
