Loyola Marymount University had a busy day on the phone Monday as they received two verbal commitments. Hazel Ramirez, a 5-foot-5 point guard from Huntington Park, Calif., was the first of two Cal Sparks players to give head coach Julie Wilhoit good news. Shortly thereafter 6-2 post Alexis Love gave her more good news.
Ramirez was selected to End of the Trail All Tournament Team earlier this month in one of the west coast's premier summer events while leading her team to a the Silver Bracket championship game. During her junior year she led Inglewood High School to the state championship game for the first time in school history and was selected First Team All State and All CIF.
Love was selected to the First Team All Suburban League team for Norwalk High School for her junior season. She is a strong interior player with a ton of upside.

Hazel seems to be a very good recruit...I think I saw her ranked as #37 PG.
Not too much info on Alexis Love...just alot of sites about a porn star by the same name. ::)I was hoping we could get a more highly sought after post.

Hazel is amazing. A great pickup for the lions. My sister played travel ball with Hazel and I was also awe dropped by some of her passing skills and point guard abilities. She is very fun to watch and will be a great pickup for the LIons

2010 is a year of tiny pg's. While Hazel may be good others are better and I don't think Hazel is over 5'3. Anyway, we need size and I would have rather have gotten a so so pg and a tremendous post, than the other way around. It seems we also have gotten a 5'10 guard as well, not sure of the name. All it means is we have gotten smaller on the court. A few local big girls have not verbaled yet...we need to get one.

Word on the street last year was Courtney Vandersloot taking our guards into the paint time and time again and shooting over them. I believe she scorded about 20 something in the second half this way. Big mismatch...if there was a switch on the screen we will now have 5'3 Hazel against a 6'3 forward/post. Not a fan of tiny pg's, most coaches in the WCC are smart and will exploit this time and time again. With no size we will remain in the middle of the WCC.

The Daily Breeze has finally caught up on this story - Hazel Rameriz was the reigning Daily Breeze Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Hazel Ramirez making an early verbal commitment to Loyola Marymount. Sounds like a good catch for LMU! www.dailybreeze.com/sports/ci_13002529
