One coach who appears safe for the moment: Loyola Marymount's Rodney Tention. Athletic Director Bill Husak said through a spokesman that Tention, 4-16 this season, his third year of a five-year contract, is not in jeopardy although questions about the program are being addressed.

Very interesting
There is a lot in that little quote.
Tention appears to be safe (is it more of a cost-saving maneuver or belief that in the 4th year with a little more experienced players things will click).
Also, "questions" about the program are being addressed (is this just political spin or are some real changes coming to the facilities, weight rooms, training programs, budgets etc).
Very interesting

Thanks ironlion. Would you have a link to this article? Much appreciated. It is VERY INTERESTING that Husak (or through a university spokesman) would go public to discuss the situation on a question posed to him/Athletic Department. Typically, programs just decline to comment either way. For press to start asking questions is a sign that things are getting under a microscope. And for a department spokesman to also say the equivalent of "questions about the program are being addressed" gives me the impression that some talks have occurred between Husak and Tention about the declining performance of the team. Someone is not pleased with the program if this reporter states that "questions about the program are being addressed." All speculation at this point, but I don't know how you justify a 4-16 season and getting crushed in 3 of your 4 first conference games in such an embarrassing fashion (record lows for our program are accumulating under RT's leadership). Keep writing letters to Lawton and Husak....the university needs to address its committment to Men's Basketball and making it a #1 or #2 program within the conference year-in, year-out. Whether it is a change in the coaching staff or whether more money needs to be allocated to the program, something needs to be addressed. From my prior posts:Let's be professional, express concern, and demand greatness for our Athletics Department. We need a commitment from Lawton and for him to know that we are simply following up on his 2007 convocation comments (can be replayed at i.lmu.edu/main/ under "President Speeches"). Talking Points for letters: MORE FUNDING to the Athletic Department would greatly help. Having the renovation and new offices as a priority on the CAPITAL BUDGET of LMU would assist. Lawton can only make those calls. Emphasis on Men's Basketball. As Men's Basketball goes so does the Allthetic Department revenues. All angles need to be exhausted. Address to: Robert B. Lawton, S.J. President 1 LMU Drive, UH 4844 Los Angeles, CA 90045 Or e-mail: rlawtonsj@lmu.eduOr Call: (310) 338-2775

Thanks Lionspride but I'm not of the same opinion. I love RT I think the staff is doing a great job. He has my son doing a great job but I want better out of him. The cohesiveness is there one night and the next night not but I beleive in what RT is doing and the ship will be right and we will be competitors in the WCC next year. We just have to play together, know the plays and move the ball and start doing it on a consistent basis.
Players are accountable too, the coach can call the plays but the players have to execute.
I wish we would get off this RT stuff he's class act and he does things the right way.

We all know tons of class act coaches that were fired. Unfortunately, scoreboard rules.

I say give him and the players some time. He is a good man and good coach. There will be better days ahead!
