Why does it seem like so few people are realistic about this past season. The team was playing about as well as anyone could hope before Brandon gets hurt. The team put forth a great effort in the game against the NCAA TOURNEY BOUND LBSU playing almost 30 Minutes without Matty, Lose Jon Ziri for a stretch of games with a concussion, and after the Portland "fight". What could you expect from a team that is absolutely depleted. It seems to me like this crew played their butts off once they got things figured out with a lineup that often included 2 walk ons (counts, Montgomery) a 5th year senior who scored more points in the great Alaska Shootout than he scored in his previous 4 years combined (Miller). Matty Knight played up to expectations most nights, and an offensively challenged Damian Martin brought all he could to the table earning Defensive Player of the Year honors. Coach Tention has this program taking all the right strides. I hate to talk about what could have been, but just imagine what this team could have done had it not lost its best player and leader. add a win vs Long beach state, as well as a win vs. a Monmouth team that seems to have caught the lions at the worst possible time, at least one more win vs Portland and at least a split vs pepperdine and USF. And that moves this team from 13-17 to 18-12 and i don't think that is even stretching the potential of what the team could have been. Be realistic people, we are all bummed about how things went, but things are headed in the right direction in gersten. It looks like recruiting is also going the right way, so if we can managed to compete next year and overcome a lack of class balance and what will be a ridiculously young team, we are 1 or 2 recruits away from being a fixture as one of the top teams in this league.
Lets take a minute and be realistic about what to expect from next year. We have 2 upperclassmen, a Juco transfer and 9 freshmen sophomores. Its going to be a season full of high points and some low ones. Lets do what we can and cheer loud support this group and just imagine what they will be 2 years from now.

Agree with your assessment. The 2006-2007 Men's Basketball team was better than its record reflects.
We fans just need to recruit more fans into Hank's House. It was pathetic to see that the "alumni"/general admin section being filled more than the student section at many games this year. However, kudos to the season ticket holders as this was our largest season ticket holders since 1990. We need more fan base and it is sad that we cannot get 4k a night. Until Hank's House starts filling up, the program cannot move to the next level. Some will refer to the old phase "you build it, they will come." AKA...you build a winning team and supporters will follow. True most of the time, but if we are serious about competing the Lion Fans need to show up night in night out, season after season. If we build the fan base, bigger talent will come to the program. We have to provide the stage.
I am sure you all noticed when Hank's House is filled to capacity, it gives the lions a great boost and more often than not we win. The crowd for the ORU and NMSU assisted in those wins. We need to make Hank's House an impossible place for opponents to play.
Hats off to Rodney Tension and the staff. I know we are headed in the right direction. Although it will be a young team next year, I think we can do some damage and gain confidence for the follow year.

Well this thread is a lightning rod before I even got to get two cents in.
This past season was fun, we had some amazing wins. New Mexico, Gonzaga, Alaska, it was really great hoops for a season with a lot of hope. But we realize that this is a team that suffered an 8 game losing streak, lost twice to a inept Pepperdine JV team and got spanked twice by an even worse Portland. It's hard to rah-rah and expect kids to kick down the doors to Gertsen when the lions haven't had a winning season since 03-04 (15-14) and we have to go back nearly a decade to find the other winning season.
The school deserves better than this and we can feel good about ourselves when we remember the fun wins or lament the unfortunate tragedy but eventually we've GOT TO WIN! Tention knows this, if you aren't winning the fans aren't coming. I've been a season ticket holder for a long time but I understand that people aren't going to show up just to see us lose, there is too much to do in LA.
We're better than a team that will forever be .... rebuilding. I have high hopes for this coming season. We'll be young but there is some good talent sitting on that bench. We need to just translate this talent and goodwill into wins.

The team is moving in the right direction. Things didn't go as well as we had hoped with the injuries but still LMU had a pretty good season. Especially when you look at our nationally televised wins. I don't think we should harp on the attendance. We had the highest overall attendance numbers since 1990 and some of the highest numbers out of the WCC. This for a team that was wildly up and down. Attendance posted on the dons board Gonzaga = 6406 St. Mary´s = 2474 USF = 2425 LMU = 2393 adequate SCU = 2225 USD = 2224 Portland = 1941 Pepperdine = 1252 it can get much better. We've got to talk up the program... bring a friend eruh Season Grades. I'd give the whole season a solid B+. Incoming class will have big upside. Go lions! ;D

Idawg: I understand your point, but don't agree. We cannot compare ours with other underachieving WCC basketball teams. But if you want to, please lets get the stats correct. The information that you posted is not official home attendance averages. Below is official records from the WCC www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/west/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/MBBStats3-20Gonzaga - 6000 St. Mary's - 3159 Santa Clara - 2933 USF - 2870 USD - 2626 LMU - 2579 Portland - 1920 Pepperdine - 1561 In your analysis, LMU was 4th. However, WCC has LMU 6th. Big difference. Beside, are you telling me that you are satisfied with an average attendance at 62% (2,579/4,156). You have to look at attendance not only by the whole number, but also the attendance rate. Considering that last year was to be our year of seriously contending to knock off Gonzaga, a respectable rate would be 75%. I would like to see it at 80% at least. I know you and I will show up at games, but we need to get others. The alumni and neighboring community did a decent job this year in filling the seats. However, the student section lacked considerable. There is no excuse for the students not to turn out. Until there is a commitment from the fans, it will be difficult to bring a 3 star recruit to LMU. Hey, I know our attendance did better year upon year, but we cannot be satisfied. I think the program needs to publicize the games better with the students. One far fetched idea would be to serve beer at games, but that will never happen for legal reasons. We need to bring the frats to the game as they are constantly drawing attendance away because of their events/parties being schedule at similar times as the Saturday night games. Also, we should have other alumni events in November/December/January/February that could lead into the Men's Basketball Game. What about giving out complimentary tickets to the Westchester community to bring them back to Gersten (or introduce them for the first time). Once they go to a game and find out how enjoyable college basketball is in person and how truly inexpensive season seats are, we have them hooked. All the athletic office/ticket office would have to do is go to a neighborhood elementary, middle, or high school basketball game and give out 4 comp ticket vouchers to parents who are watching their kid play hoops. You know they enjoy the game and now you have provided them an avenue to spend family time at a college game. You automatically grabbed your target market. Get the community hooked. We need to reach out to the community. Leverage Jenkins and bring in Westchester. The time is now. Sure we will have a young team, but it should be exciting. We need to fill the seats. Even if you give away a 1000 comp ticket vouchers a game, not all will attend but those that will attend may purchase beverages or popcorn/candy (making money you would never had made). Also, it just may happen they will enjoy the experience and come back. It not only makes sense economically, but also just from additional crowd support. We hit Westchester school and establish a relationship with their school basketball programs and move down to the marina and south bay. Market it. I am sick of hearing that LMU is the best known secret in LA. GO LIONS!

I am afraid to point out that your stats is for conference games only.
Here is the home attendance for ALL GAMES:
1. Gonzaga 6000 2. Saint Mary's 2578 3. LMU 2521 4. USF 2425 5. Santa Clara 2225 6. San Diego 2224 7. Portland 1610 8. Pepperdine 1252
I am not happy with our attendance either. The people in charge in the administration are so internally focused that they just can't seem to think outside of box. All your ideas are very doable, which makes it more sad why the people in charge aren't doing it.

Well we as fans need to do our part and share our ideas with the administration. Write to the Athletic Admin and share our ideas. Basketball games need to become the "it thing" on a Saturday and Monday night. Saturday's games need to become a campus wide pre party. Go party, head over and yell like crazy at the game and then head out to celebrate. and hopefully some of the Monday start dates can get bumped forward so kids will hang around campus. I know it is a little bit tough with those 8 and 9pm starts. Obviously those TV games cant be touched, but the others i think would benefit from being bumped up. I think the Administration needs to sit down with the head of the student section and get their wish list. Find out what those kids think it will take to make LMU basketball the thing to do on campus. It's Guaranteed not all of the things will be doable, but i bet they will have a ton of valuable ideas.
It's time for the administration to do what it takes to get this program over the top. Right now they are flirting with success. And I said it before, they are 2 solid recruits away from turning the corner. We need to do whatever it takes.

If Gersten sold beer it would be sold out every game, no joke.
