It was very close game UPStonehouse. I was impressed with the Pilots performance. I think we needed the victory more and made us put forth that extra effort. Ravio and Ito make quite a impressive back court! Good luck the rest of the way!

Outside of the play of Diderichs and Max Craig, we've shown some improvement since the beginning of conference play.
It was good to see the defensive effort we put forth last night and helping reduce the number of turnovers was big.

I can't wait till Diderich get some more mass. He is a very savy post player, and has a nice array of moves down there. He just has to work on his rebounding too. What is the story with Mason...Chris K has gotten more minutes than him in the last two games. Is he in the dog house big time or are they hoping he transfers?

Ironlions....classic line...."they hoping he transfers".......it sure seems like it as R.T. seems to continue with the mass subsitutions (except for Mas). It seems as if our players get 3-4 minutes and then are substituted. I never see a Lion get to the point of "winded" and get substituted. R.T. has a revolving door of rotations. Mason is definitely getting the short end of the stick, but when he has been in the game he gets the rock swatted in his face. But how is that much different then our other BIGS? If they are hoping for him to transfer, then maybe we can use that same discpline method/tactics on some of our other BIGs. A couple of soon-to-be transfers would definitely save R.T. for another year. Otherwise we have the same BIGs until 2009-2010 season. I realize that our existing BIGS can improve, but when we are completely behind our competition's BIGs now....it is a huge battle. (If I am not misstaken) Individuals like Max Craig started their basketball endeavors in high school. It is difficult to make up on the loss of 6 years of touching and feeling the ball. Not to say it cannot be done, but it is a huge upward climb. It is asking alot for major improvements over the summers.

I was really happy we got the win. In the big picture it is only one win and we still have a lot of work to do. I'm going to stay in the moment and enjoy the effort and performance of the young Lions. A tip of the hat to Sutton. Our inside game/big men need to develop and I was nice to see Terron's performance. Go Lions Sutton looked good. Should get himself more minutes.

Our next game vs. Santa Clara will be a test for our bigs. The Broncs leading score is 6'10 305 lb Joe Bryant. The difference in points in the paint vs our last to opponents is a bit troubling. Max and T.Sutt have to step and shut that fatso down.
Go Lions

Don't jinx it, Sutton makes more contribution coming off the bench than being a starter. That's how I felt about JZ before, he became a starter and then became a non-factor. JZ is playing much better now but I wouldn't advocate for him to be in the starting lineup again.
I think Max might benefit from a weight loss program. Add some bounce and quickness in his steps. We don't need him to be Shaq, we just need him to be Chris Ayer. What? Why not?
Defense was good last night. Yeah, there were miscommunication and other stuff but our intensity more than made up for the mistakes.
Tough three games road trip ahead, I hope the players can feed off the energy from each other. Go Lions!

It is a shame some people on this board consider themselves fans. So negative. They are mad when we lose they complain when we win. I dont know what you were expecting, but i am happy to see this group getting better that is what i need to see. this team isnt going to be a contender in the conference overnight, but for a group of players who beyond Jon Ziri and Marko Deric havent played any real games before this year, I am happy with the effort and growth i have seen in the league season. We competed our butts off on saturday against a top 25 team, and we played with them for 35 minutes. I can live with that at this point. Pepperdine was on national TV and was out of the game from the jump. we are 1-1 in league. and i am happy what i have seen so far. Unlike some i am a fan of this team and hope to see them continue to get better. and i have confidence they will.

Scoop,
The thing is a lot of fans think they know better than the rest so when things don't go their way (the timing of substitution, the recruiting or whatever) they get pissed off. I irked when i read comments like "we won't get better until certain years" or "we won't get better until we find a big man". F' OFF already! We did get better last night, without waiting for 2010 or addition of another big man. College basketball is all about heart, don't tell me we can't win with current group, that's bullsh$t!

Scoop and lmu your points are well taken. Let's not turn this into a "which fan is more worthy" debate. I think everyone who posts on this board is only looking towards what is best for the players, coaches and LMU community. There just seems to be a big difference of opinion on how we get there.
Go lions! I agree with ironlions too, lets at least enjoy this win ;D

Anyone who wont celebrate a teams growth and a win isnt a fan in my eyes. sure we didnt do everything right. but if you dont think last night was a step in the right direction something is wrong with you. and there are plenty of pepperdine fans who would point out that portland was picked low... but guess what... we are 1-1 and that isnt true for everyone

Memo To: Scoop Re: Top 25 Gonzaga is not listed in the Top 25 for the 1) Associated Press Poll, 2) Coaches Poll, or 3) ESPN/USA Poll Get your facts straight before you come attacking another Lion fan's opinion. Also, please stop comparing us to Pepperdine. You are only putting your arguments in a deeper hole as Pepperdine is similar to us in overall record and projected finish in conference. Start comparing us to the tops in our conference....oh, that is right...Gonzaga who we lost to by 20+ on Saturday. We have a long way to go. Get a better measuring stick, scoop. Next good overall measure is the game against St. Mary's next week. That will give you a perspective how where we are as a program. I hate to spell out the obvious and waste other board members' time reading it, but I just want to help you out when assessing a sports program.

Don't try to twist my words lmu. I never said we cannot win games without a new Big Man until 2009-2010. No team can consistently win games with an unbalanced attack. Any quality caliber team will know how to defend against it. I stating that we cannot seriously contend and pull off a .500 season or contend for a WCC title without SOLID QUALITY BIG MEN presence down low. Please don't twist my words. If you disagree with my opinion, that is fine. However, I think most of those so-called college basketball expert analysts (Andy Katz, etc.) willl tell you that a guard attack/outside shooting exhibition will not win you conference championships.

Or if you had a more abstract mind you might be able to look at other possible meanings... Such as... In my opinion they are a top 25 quality team. If they make it back into the top 25 i would assume that means others agree with me. they were there before and they werent at full strength. and they will be again in my opinion. see how that works...
and it seems to me as though someone had a guilty concience. Because I never said anyones name, i never called anyone out. So you must recognize your own lust for negativity... you should have been a pepperdine fan. Monday would have been like an orgy to you.

Scoop: I am a "REAL FAN" (your words, not mine) who stands up when other FANs only mask their true feelings. Don't be so naive and keep comparing us to Pepperdine. That just negates your validity to your arguments.
Regarding your interpratation of the Zags as a Top 25....sure they may get back into the fray, however, with only 2 votes in the AP poll it will be difficult even if they do run the table in the WCC (which I don't think will happen...St. Mary's will have something to say about that). Also Memphis has a game against the Zags on the 26 of this month. That will be a very difficult game for the Zags. The Zags are a quality opponent and definitely a top mid-major team this year. I will not discredit them. However, I am not sure if they are a consistent top 25 this year.
