It looks as if we are underdogs on this one again.
Sam Houston State has received votes for the Top 25 in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls for the last few weeks. They are also ranked #6 on the Collegeinsider.com's Mid major Top 25 poll. Sam Houston State is 10-0 on the season. Probably their most impressive win was against Texas Tech early in the season. Other than that Saint Louis (road victory) and UCI (home victory by 7 points) has been its only tests. The rest of the wins have come against Saint Gregory's, Haddin-Simmons, and the Texas-Lutherans of the world.
One thing that may work to our benefit is that Sam Houston State plays San Diego State Friday evening. Maybe they will be worn down a bit. Or maybe this will backfire and they will be in "game shape" when they play us and we will be coming off a week break from any competitive action.
It sure would be nice if we could pin Sam Houston State with its first loss.
Go Lions!

Sam Houston pretty much embarrassed a solid Lions team last year. They ran all over us. It would be a major upset to pull out this victory. Not outside the realm of reason but I'd like to be near a defibrillator just in case. Go lions!

SHSU took SDSU to the wire and lost by 1. SDSU killed us at Gersten. We have to be at the top of our game to pull off the W.

Things could get ugly. We have had some tme off to get focused and maybe SHSU will not be taking us very seriously. Good luck team!

That loss was their first. I expect them to be ready for some blood. I hope we can compete they could be fatigued at least.

83-66, Not as bad as the score looked though. For much of the game we hung in there and there was some definite improvement in D. But when OJ cannot get it done we have serious trouble. We still have serious FT and TO problems. Still I hope the guys can look back at some of the good stuff that happened this game. I was also happy the team did not collapse and kept battling back when they could have just given up.
Should be an interesting one at BYU!

I know its been a rough non-conference schedule but I'm seeing improvement. There is a lot to work on like FT for one but I think if we keep moving forward we can win do pretty well during WCC play.
Go Lions!

Improvement on defense? Yes. Improvement on turnovers and free throw? No.
It gets old to keep pointing out the same flaw after each game but 25 TOs really kills. I have a feeling brandon walker is going to get his chance to start before the season is over.
Oh and nice to see QT back in action!

Jimmie Giron officiated the game. He was a walk-on at USF and played with RT. During a timeout near the end of the first half, RT got in a heated discussion with one of the other officials. He was upset that the Sam Houston players were touching the ball after it went through the net. Giron came over and T’d RT. It was out of line because Giron wasn’t in the discussion. He should excuse himself from LMU games if he can't control his emotions and supress whatever he has against RT from their USF days together.

Wow sounds like a lot of history went into that scuffle. I wasn't at the game to see.
