If every single thing goes right for us and every single thing goes wrong for BYU we might win. Coach Tention did have a win at BYU to start his LMU career!
Some thoughts and notes:
I wonder what roles Mason and Terron will have the rest of the season. It seems they are riding a lot of pine these days.
I wish Sweezy grew a few more inches. He is a talented post player but seems undersized.
I like seeing Q. Turner back in the line up. Let's just hope he doesn't go back to being Q. Turn over again
Kwame Vaughn is averaging 27.5 ppg in his first 6 games!
Go Lions!

Sweezy looks like a natural small forward to me, if he can develop a deadly shooting touch...watch out! Do Miller II!
Jason and Terron are probably going to be backup for the rest of the season (if not lmu career). Tim is taking a big man spot already, both Max and Dric are more qualified plus Max's got the size. Tough for Jason and Terron...

In bizarro world we've already beat BYU. LMU beat BSU- BSU beat BYU therefore LMU defeats BYU. Why even make the trip, lets just put this one in the books ;-) I also believe we should be ranked higher than USC.

An interesting tid bit ...the last team to beat BYU before they started their 38 home winning streak ( longest in the nation) is none other than LMU! Man if we win that would amazing!
Go Lions!

Why can KXLU not get its audio back? This is EMBARRASSING? I have never heard or seen this happen for such a long duration (half the game). LMU needs to address its issues on and off the courts. I CANNOT believe our fans cannot even hear Lampe. Maybe it is for the better as we are experiencing another run-away lose.

ugh....This is getting a bit frustrating. We are losing in UGLY fashion. RT's comments sum it up (below).....how many games is he going to be singing this song? From lmulions.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/010308aaa.html"Tonight we got better for 25 minutes but we could not sustain it," said Head Coach Rodney Tention. "We are still learning. In the first half we competed and took care of the ball. We had only five turnovers in the first half. Thus, we were in the game. In the second half we had 15 and we were out of the game." "We have given a lot of games away early, but we came out and took care of the ball early and were in the game," said Tention. "But the game is 40 minutes. We are not far off from figuring this out. We have potential but we have to sustain it for 40 minutes."

I feel sorry for RT. I am not sure if this is coach's fault or just the players not learning. Iam ready to donate $15 just so the coaching staff can buy a case of beer and forget all this crap.
Tim only does the pretty stuff (scoring). 27 mins of playing and one rebound? ONE? JUST ONE? Are you kidding me???Fortunately, Tim wasn't the worst, that honor belongs to marko, 14 mins and no rebound. Yup...that's zero, zilch, nada...NOTHING!
Shawn? Inconsistent. OJ? Inconsistent as well. Corey? Not a factor. Bench? Ziri was the only guy who came to play but only received 12 mins? That sucks.
Not exactly a positive review of the game...

LMU,
I disagree with your post. I havn't posted for a while because actually I've been pretty pissed at what I watch and how we are playing. There is something more here than you know about and one is the selfish play that I see during the games.
Read overall stat lines for the year, its clear.
1st point - When your guard is taking more 3 pointers than quality 2 point shots it's a problem.
2 point - Ball movement is not there yet when we played Sam Houston and even tonight notice the assist to the opposing teams assist. We need to move the Dang ball and cut the one on one play out. Tonight 21 Assist BYU to 12 LMU (5 by Deadwiler). Move the dang ball. We also had 19 TO's to there 11. So if we are all moving the ball like we are supposed to then these stats would not be so lopsided.
3rd Point - When your guards are leading your bigs in rebounding or close to it thats just sad and makes it hard for the guards to get going or get quality shots and also makes the game that much dang harder. Also the bigs when they get the ball go straight up.
-- JZ - 79 - minimum minutes -- Orlando - 76 - foul trouble and still getting them -- Tim - 54 - most minutes avg by a player -- Marko - 54 - more mins than JZ -- Deadwiler - 42 - 6"3 guard Bigs gotta take this personal and do better. Does RT and the coaching staff the only ones that care. If I was a player I'm taking it personal.
4th Point - What plays are called to get these quality shots, I know RT is calling them but we have too many players looking to score.
5th Point - We need three quality scoring options and they have to get 12 to 15 shots a game. Not one game 3 shots, 1 game 8 shots and 1 game 12 shots.
6th Point - When we have a team with 7 Team Fouls we need to ensure our best FT shooter is getting to the rack thus getting fouled and hitting those shots. This stops the game clock and allows us to get back into games and slow the game down.
7th Point - I think the last two games Deadwiler has had a 8 rbs and 2 assist night and a 5 rbs and 5 assist night. You say inconsistent but yet in still he's getting it done in other areas. Shots are not going to fall each night especially when half of your eight attemps are 3ptrs.
8th Point - Is how and the heck a player that can get to the rack at will, pull up for a mid range jumper, score the ball shooting the ball 125 time and 75 of them being 3 pointers, this is a problem.
9th Point - Foul trouble has to stop, cut out the silly fouls.
10 Point - Counts is the only one that has more assist than TOs. Although we are getting better we cannot afford setbacks but with guys in the wrong place, wrong time it makes for a lot of TOs.
I'm going to say again RT has the plays there but the ball rotation just flat out sucks and players are not getting quality shots. I don't live on how many points a player scores we need ball movement, make the extra pass and know who our 1st, 2nd and 3rd options are. What are our support player roles.
I'm not going to call out any player but I know the coaches are coaching hard to get this team to move the ball play team ball not look for stats.
But I can tell you a lot of what you call inconsistent play stems from some players having to do to much just to be in games and not moving the ball to the open player.
I can go on and on but I will say this I would run the hell out of my players until they puke so they get the point this is a team game and everyone has a role and I expect that role to be followed for the betterment of the team. Teams win games not individuals.
You won't get me to chant Deadwiler, OJ or whomever I want to see team basketball, execution across the board, players being in the right spot at the right time not lost during a play thus forcing one on one play or just bad shots. I would also like to see less 3ptrs taken and see some good shots from Mid Range and going to the basket.
We have the talent and the coaches and in time it will all come together. We also played a tough non conference schedule so I expect to see us compete very well in the WCC. I also expect to beat the crap out of Bakersfield and to move the ball.
Man let me stop, I just flew back in and I'm a little Pissed off got to settle down.

Dang tell us how you really feel dead3man!! But you make a lot of quality points. From your finger tips to the coaches and players ears. We still got a lot of work to get this team to play quality basketball.

I say get dead3man on the bench and in GP for practices. I agree that this team needs a good o'd fashion run until they vomit practice. I find it funny that at the beginning of this season RT said this was going to be a "running" team. I have not seen much of it. Actually, the majority of the time when I see LMU on fast break opportunities, they seem to have a turnover or not be able to finish.
Go dead3man. I agree with you on all points except one ("We also played a tough non conference schedule so I expect to see us compete very well in the WCC."). I agree we have a moderate to tough non conference schedule (for a mid-major program), but I am not convienced that we are going to compete "very well in the WCC." I never lose faith, but what I see on the court currently makes me scared we will not have more than 2 wins in conference.
The first two conference games will be VERY VERY TELLING. Gonzaga on 01/12 and Portland on 01/14. I hope we can hold down the zags and give us confidence for the Portland game. If we lose to Portland....ALL BETS OFF. The Portland game @ GP will be the pivotal game and a barometer for the conference schedule.
Also, I will be HIGHLY disappointed if we lose to Bakersfield.

Dead3man,
BYU shot 33 3's in the game and they blew us out. College b'ball in general relies much more on three point shooting than in NBA so I was ok with our guys taking 3's. Now, if you tell me those 3's didn't come within the flow of our offense then that's another matter.
I feel our big men are posting up too often, taking up space and occupying the driving lanes. As a result, our guards have no room to operate and no lane to penetrate. It's weird but we didn't have this problem when we had matty, chris and grubb. Something is not right.
The players should be more spread out on the floor...less dribbling more passing....we can go on and on but are the players going to learn? If so, when? We are just touching on the same issue over and over again.
